Position Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW

The Department of Health & Human Physiology (HHP) is seeking an Instructor with a focus on Anatomy and Physiology. This is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment for one academic year beginning August 2024 and is renewable. Duties of this position include teaching a variety of introductory and advanced human physiology and anatomy laboratory courses within the Health and Human Physiology curriculum, with a primary focus on anatomy labs and physiology labs for majors and non-majors.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY AND DEPARTMENT

The University of Iowa is one of the nation's premier public research universities with 33,564 students from 114 countries and all 50 states. The Department of Health and Human Physiology is a thriving program with multiple majors, minors, and focus areas. The department has shown significant growth over the past several years and is currently the largest department at the University of Iowa with 2200+ undergraduate students across six majors including Human Physiology, Exercise Science, Health Studies, Health Promotion, Sport and Recreation Management, and Therapeutic Recreation. To accommodate this growth, a new six-story, $249 million Health Science Academic Building that will house the Departments of Health and Human Physiology, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, and Communication Sciences and Disorders, is scheduled to be completed in 2026. This new building will become a hub for innovative teaching and learning, community outreach and engagement, experiential education, and cutting-edge biomedical, clinical, and community health-related research.

Education Requirement:

Minimum of a BA/BS degree in biological sciences, anatomy and physiology, exercise science, or related field.

Required Qualifications:

Experience with anatomy and/or physiology laboratory courses.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent time management and organizational skills.

Willingness to work with human and animal specimens.

Familiarity with analog-to-digital data acquisition systems, working with programs such as iWorx, Biopac, etc.

Desirable Qualifications:

Demonstrated effectiveness teaching or assisting with teaching cat and human dissection-based laboratories.

Demonstrated effectiveness teaching or assisting with teaching using I-Worx or similar physiology equipment.

Demonstrated effectiveness teaching or assisting in exercise testing/health labs.
