Position Overview:
As a vital member of the Health Information Management team, the Coding Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of medical coding for inpatient hospital stays. This position is designed for part-time engagement, allowing for flexibility while contributing to the mission of providing quality healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough reviews of medical records to assign precise ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes in accordance with established coding compliance policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Achieve and surpass performance targets related to coding volume and accuracy.
  • Engage in effective communication with healthcare providers to obtain necessary information for accurate code assignment.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of a diploma or degree in Health Information Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of hospital inpatient ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and computer software applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Professional experience collaborating with diverse teams.
Certifications:
Candidates must possess HIM certification such as RHIA or RHIT, or coding certification (e.g., CCS) from a recognized credentialing body. Full certification is required within six months of employment.

Desirable Experience:
  • 1-3 years of experience in hospital inpatient coding.
  • Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and CMS regulations.
  • Experience with coding software such as Epic or 3M.
