Duties
  • You will create plans and reports based on environmental conditions and operational requirements to make appropriate recommendations to customers and leadership.
  • You will keep abreast of current and proposed applicable Federal, state, regional, and local environmental laws and regulations to meet mission requirements.
  • You will evaluate original and specialized technical studies and resultant data for accuracy, sampling and monitoring for munitions constituents in the terrestrial and marine environment.
  • You will develop Military Range Complex Management Plans, Range and Water Sustainability Environmental Program Assessments, and munitions clearance action scopes.
  • You will perform or oversee contractor support to prepare environmental planning documents; including preparing scopes of work and cost estimates.
  • You will manage, guide, review, and/or evaluate environmental work of team members or contractors.
  • You will apply a wide range of environmental laws and regulations to be able to provide expert technical advice and assistance on the interpretation and applicability of current federal, state, regional, and local policies and directives.

      Qualifications

      For GS-12:
      In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following duties: 1) Applying a wide range of environmental engineering, scientific, planning and management principles and methods sufficient to be able to oversee high complex range sustainment projects, including evaluation of original and specialized technological studies and resultant data, sampling and monitoring for munitions constituents in the terrestrial and marine environment; 2) Serving as technical manager for range sustainability projects including but not limited to the development to Range Complex Management Plans, Range and Water Range Sustainability Environmental Program Assessments, Encroachment Management Plans, and munitions clearance actions; 3) Managing, guiding, reviewing, and/or evaluating environmental work of team members or contractors; and 4) Preparing scopes of work and cost estimates. NOTE: This experience must be fully supported in your resume.

      For GS-11:

      Basic requirements for 0401 series:
      A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a related discipline appropriate to this position;
      OR
      A combination of education and experience in one of the above majors that includes at least 24 semester hours in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline related to this position plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience demonstrates that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four year course of study with a major as described above.

      Basic Requirements for GS-1301 Series:
      Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics;
      OR
      A combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

      Basic Requirements for 0020 Series:
      Successful completion of a community planning degree, or a degree in a related discipline such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration that included at least 12 semester hours in the planning process, socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, urban and regional economic analysis, and development finance;
      OR
      A combination of education and experience where I have successfully completed a community planning degree, or a degree in a related discipline such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration and have one (1) year of work experience in community planning acquired under the supervision and guidance of a community planner;
      OR
      A combination of education and experience where my courses were equivalent to a major in community planning , urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration; or a combination of related courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the listed disciplines of which at least 12 semester hours were in the planning process, and socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

      Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.

Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

      At the GS-11 grade level: Applicants that do not meet the specialized experience as described above may qualify with education or a combination of experience and education, as follows:
