As the Manager, DevOps you will be accountable for team deliverables and successful completion of team initiatives including the design, development, and implementation of CI/CD processes and automation, cloud artifact configuration, troubleshooting and problem resolution and provide general support to application teams at XPO; ensuring timely delivery, cost efficiency, and with a high degree of quality. Responsibilities also include project management, technical and business analysis activities, budgeting, department initiatives related to process improvements, vendor management, contract negotiations and people management. This role will work closely with peer managers, senior management, related development teams, and other stakeholders.

What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Maintain a DevOps roadmap and direct resources to achieving targets set in the roadmap, monitor daily tickets received and ensure prompt resolution, and maintain an upgrade schedule for all tools owned by the team.
  • Provide platform engineering leadership, participate in cloud roadmap discussions, provide solutions for security issues discovered by security scans, and support strategic technology initiatives.
  • Actively drives work through continuous direct engagement with team members at all levels.
  • Manages team budgets, authorize expenditures, monitor allocation and resources, and oversee project plans.
  • Effective management of staff, including hiring, counseling, termination, performance reviews. Employee and team development and coaching to increase bench strength and flexibility of teams.
  • Knowledge and accountability for compliance to XPO Project Development and SOX controls.
  • Vendor management to include: relationship management, product roadmap, support issue resolution and support contract negotiation for DevOps tools such as TeamCity, Octopus, GitHub etc.

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work or military experience
  • Proven expertise in cloud technologies such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Knowledge of IT software development methodologies and processes in an agile environment
  • Experience with GCP or AWS, VMware, or similar cloud provider technologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Effective organizational, leadership, and presentation skills.

It'd be great if you also have:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • 8+ years of proven expertise in building Java/J2EE applications, including at least 3+ years of proven expertise in building CI/CD processes for Java or equivalent technologies
  • 4+ years of experience leading a development operations team
  • Expertise in build and deployment tools such as TeamCity or equivalent
  • Expertise in release manager tools such as Octopus or equivalent
  • Expertise in version control system such as GitHub or equivalent
  • Expertise in Enterprise Java
  • Expertise in Google Cloud Platform
  • Knowledge of .NET
