Main Purpose of Job

The Evening\r
Reporting Center (ERC) DJS Resident Advisor Trainee provides supervision and\r
guidance to youth, while maintaining safety, care and program continuity in\r
accordance with established DJS policies and procedures. In addition, the\r
Resident Advisor (RA) ensures that youth are abiding by the program rules and\r
conditions of the Court. The RA performs duties under general supervision.\r
Additionally, the purpose of this position is to provide direct care coverage\r
of the youth over a continuum of shifts.\r

POSITION DUTIES

Successful completion of specialized training designed for the program.\r
Completes yearly continuing training as mandated by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.\r
Daily activities such as recreation, meals, field trips and group activities.\r
Maintain direct supervision of youth at all times.\r
Observe youth in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.\r
Provide a stable environment by intervening to diffuse and de-escalate behavior.\r
Safely transport youth to and from the program using state vehicle.\r
Serve meals and snacks to youth and ensure area is cleaned.\r
Communicate with parents and other DJS workers regarding youth related issues.\r
Recommend AIM to Case Manager, Supervisor and/or Program Manager.\r
Works with Community Case Management Specialist, Program CMS, field Chief Operations Officer, Supervisor and Program Manager on youth compliance.\r
Receive and review Electronic Monitoring alerts to assist with pick up of youth.\r
Other duties as assigned\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.�\r
Experience: None.�\r
Note: The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.\r
\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Employment experience within the last 18 months�\r
Associate's Degree in a related field (i.e., Criminal Justice,\r
Social or Behavioral Sciences)\r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification must complete and successfully pass the�Entrance Level Correctional Training Course for DJS staff required�for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission certificate during the�probationary period.�\r

�2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r
\r

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. In accordance with the Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209�of the�Annotated Code of Maryland,�the Maryland Correctional Training Commission shall establish the minimum qualifications for probationary or permanent appointment of a Department of Juvenile Services employee in a mandated position. These requirements are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations , general regulations of the Maryland Correctional Training Commission, and include:\r

U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status\r
Must be at least 21years of age\r
A thorough background check, including fingerprinting and drug testing\r
An oral interview, and\r
Physical and psychological examinations.\r
\r
2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in�accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations , Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r
\r
