The Associate Counsel for Intellectual Property and Marketing will be responsible for providing legal guidance on trademark, copyright, and marketing matters to various business units. This role includes managing Under Armour's global trademark and copyright portfolios, overseeing clearance, prosecution, and enforcement activities. Additionally, the Associate Counsel will advise the business on marketing and advertising compliance.
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
• Detail-oriented with the capacity to juggle multiple priorities in a dynamic, high-performance setting.
• Proficient in managing a substantial caseload with strict deadlines.
- Support a wide array of intellectual property matters, including both domestic and international trademark, copyright, and design issues.
- Conduct comprehensive clearance searches to assess the availability of proposed trademarks, taglines, product names, and other marketing content.
- Oversee a significant volume of trademark prosecution and enforcement activities with domestic and international intellectual property offices and third parties.
- Collaborate with and manage external law firms, vendors, and internal stakeholders as necessary for ongoing IP matters.
- Draft essential legal documents, including cease and desist letters and Notices of Opposition.
- Contribute to the enforcement of Under Armour's rights and the development of risk management strategies.
- Review advertising and promotional content across various media platforms.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide guidance on claim substantiation, publicity rights, and necessary disclosures.
- Structure and review terms and conditions for marketing initiatives, including promotions and contests.
- Draft and negotiate intellectual property licenses and marketing agreements with external parties.
- Prepare and update waivers and releases for marketing events.
- Educate and counsel the business proactively to mitigate risks and enhance intellectual property protection.
- J.D. and active membership in a state bar in good standing.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience in-house or at a law firm, focusing on intellectual property matters.
- Preference for candidates with prior law firm experience.
- Experience in sustainability or environmental advertising is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Location: Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance from our headquarters.
- Return to Work Designation: Hybrid model with three days in-office and the remainder remote.
- No relocation assistance provided.
- $175,000 - $240,937.40 USD
Most new hires typically fall within this range, with opportunities for growth over time. Initial salary placement is based on relevant experience and skills. Under Armour is committed to supporting our teammates' success and career advancement. Base salary is one component of our comprehensive Total Rewards package.
