Birchwood, a diverse manufacturer and packager, has an immediate opening for a Buyer. This position handles the purchasing of many of the basic goods and services to meet the day-to-day production requirements of all divisions.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Purchases the best product for the best price (within approval limits for job) from reliable vendors for assigned commodities.
  • Negotiates price and terms to secure competitive bids.
  • Prepares RFQs and searches for new suppliers for items already purchased or for new material requirements.
  • Determines lead times and safety stock levels.
  • Purchases appropriate quantities and monitors inventory levels.
  • Issues purchase requisitions and obtains approval.
  • Assists with the preparation and maintenance of material specifications.
  • Helps maintain vendor, raw material, and purchase order files.
  • Coordinates purchasing activity with other departments and responds to inquiries regarding assigned materials.
  • Monitors orders by verifying with suppliers that specified delivery dates of critical materials will be met. Notifies appropriate personnel of changes and updates the purchase order.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • 1-2 years purchasing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Ability to work in a high volume purchasing function.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
