The University of Miami has a great opening for a Recovery Technician at the Eye Bank in Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. This role involves retrieving and handling ocular tissue for surgical and research purposes.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assess cases for corneal removal to determine donor suitability through medical chart reviews and discussions with relevant parties.
- Extract tissue from consented donors following proper protocols.
- Secure donor's medical data and complete necessary documentation.
- Conduct specular microscopy on corneas for cell counts.
- Handle sclera tissue preservation and blood processing.
- Ensure thorough tissue evaluation and support examinations.
- Train individuals on eye bank procedures.
- Prepare instrument sets, manage supplies, and assist in tissue distribution.
- Collect eyes for pathology and maintain lab cleanliness records.
- Adhere to University policies, protect assets, and follow procedures.
