Job Summary

This project is located in Tennessee and requires mobilizing to the site for project duration. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.

Union or Union management experience is strongly preferred.

Elevated Concrete Slabs, Concrete Columns and Concrete Wall experience is strongly preferred.

Interfacing with and monitoring direct hire supervision and/or major subcontractor supervision and field engineering. Ensures project requirements and expectations are met with regards to craft and supervisory performance, direct hire craft productivity and performance and/or reporting on Subcontractors performance. Ensures adherence by all discipline craft and Subcontractors to safety, quality, schedule and performance expectations as defined by Black and Veatch. Provides craft supervisors with information and technical direction required to complete project safely, timely and in a quality manner. Ensures schedule and project expectations are clearly defined to craft supervisors and Subcontractors. Ensures schedule requirements are communicated to all levels of craft discipline and/or Supervision. Coordinates interpretation of technical requirements. Provides technical data and information, as required, to direct hire workforce, subcontractor supervision or Construction Engineers. Ensures compliance by workforce or subcontractor to all standards, procedures and contractual commitments within the bounds of all applicable policies. For Union Projects - Responsible for ensuring that the daily project execution is in line with the Black and Veatch National Maintenance and Project Labor Union Agreements. Responsible for understanding all Local Union agreements for the project. Responsible for establishing a working relationship with the Local Union BA and the Local Union Site Job Steward. Responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted workflow at union interface points. Has ability and expertise to stand in for the construction manager during absence from site if requested. Has ability to comprehend overall project schedule with regards to requirements of other disciplines or subcontractors requirements. May have responsibility for safety and quality requirements on site if required. Has ability and responsibility to mentor and train other discipline superintendents. Is capable of recommending training and development needs for the trainees. Could be designated as Lead Discipline Superintendents responsible for duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Position will be an onsite role for managing from direct hire carpenters, labors, cement masons and operating engineers on a large industrial/power project in North America
  • Once on the project site, the position will require the superintendent to be in the field approximately 80% of the time.
  • Experience with slab, columns and walls strongly preferred.
  • Familiar with information required for industrial construction (formwork drawings, anchor bolt/embed drawings, concrete curing requirements, concrete finishing methods, working knowledge of rebar drawings, drawing coordinates for layout of foundations, and other civil related structures).
  • Familiar with foundation formwork systems and choosing the right system for the application as well as the rate placement of concrete placement to assure proper chosen formwork.
  • Possess an understanding of coordinates for elevation and location of foundations, anchor bolts embeds and other civil features.
  • Ability to calculate the number of yards of concrete place for each foundation and coordinate batch plants for the placement of foundations.
  • Ability to adapt to company safety rules/regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to determine installation quantities and durations for all work related to concrete placement.
  • Union experience preferred, but not required.
  • Position could require an office role before mobilization to pre-plan schedule, install rates, durations, ordering equipment and tools.
  • Ability to work with other discipline superintendents in a collaborative manner for optimum safety, quality and schedule metrics.
  • Experience with development of durations required for excavation/backfill and equipment needed for foundation installation. Not required but would be a plus.

Minimum Qualifications
8+ years experience as a Superintendent or Construction Manager on equivalent projects. Valid Driver's License. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.Certifications
OSHA 10 certification.Work Environment/Physical Demands

Physical Demands:

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move, and Walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.

    • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
    • Work around hazardous equipment.
