Job Description:

Dedicated yard switchers play a critical role in our customer's transportation needs by ensuring the timely movement of trailers in and out of the docks on-site at the customer's location. Unlike some positions, this one gives you a better idea of the number of hours each week holds, which means you'll have a better idea of what to expect in every paycheck. And because you know your customers and their typical freight load, you'll never be surprised or slowed down by unusual shipments.

  • Competitive pay:
    • Average $1,100 a week / $52,800 a year (based on 48 weeks)
    • Starting pay is $27.50 per hour
  • Home daily; Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • When the site goes back to a 2nd Shift, hours may change
  • Ensuring the timely movement of trailers in and out of the docks on-site at the customer's location
  • Drop/hook equipment (Inbound/Outbound)
  • Communicate with after-hours breakdown department (flat tires, dead batteries)
  • Relocate tractors/trailers between the customer's distribution center and our Dallas Service Center (Ai Inspections, PM Inspections, etc.)
  • Assist with misc. local deliveries (extreme emergencies only)
  • Communicate effectively with shipping/receiving associates (via hand-held radios, cell phones, text, etc.)
  • Fuel spare day cabs and/or sleepers
  • Assist office staff with odometer miles at month end
  • Provide weekly yard updates
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must live within a 75-mile radius
  • Must have 6 months of full-time verifiable tractor-trailer and/or switching experience within the past 3 years
  • Must have Class A CDL
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • No convictions for reckless driving within the past 5 years
  • No convictions for DUI within the past 5 years
  • No suspensions or revocations within the last 5 years
  • No serious violations within the previous 12 months (15 mph or greater, following too closely, improper passing, traffic offense committed in a CMV in connection with fatality)
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the past 3 years
  • No preventable DOT recordable accidents within the past 3 years
Essential Functions:
  • Open/Close trailer door - force requirement: 46 lbs
  • Hook/Unhook trailer - force requirement: 90 lbs
  • Perform pre-trip inspections
  • Drive
  • Regular predictable attendance
  • Frequent bending for placement of wheel chocks
  • Safely enter/exit yard tractor 100+ times per shift
  • Lifting/opening trailer doors
  • Sliding trailer tandems when necessary
  • Safely maneuvering equipment with good backing skills
