Job Announcement

The Department of Information Technology (DIT) Radio Services Center (RSC) supports all county public safety and general county agencies, as well as the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) wireless communications technologies to include Land Mobile Radio (LMR), Enhanced Push-to-Talk (ePTT), and mobile data environments. This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the service center and manages the county personnel and contractors assigned to the facility.

Duties include: Plans, develops, and coordinates implementation of all aspects of the County's radio communications infrastructure to meet the needs of Fairfax County public safety and general county government agencies. Position is responsible for the supervision of the staff, and management of the administrative activities for the Radio Services Center for customer service, vehicle installations and radio system and subscriber maintenance/repairs, Fire Station Alerting and other work requests as required. Directs staff of engineers to support the public safety and the general county radio systems and the 9-1-1 communications centers. Coordinates radio system infrastructure work with engineering services staff and contractor resources. Develops and justifies annual budgets (personnel, operations, and equipment), manages associated contracts, and reviews and authorizes appropriated expenditures. Supports the Police car 'Get-Ready process' and oversees quality control process for Police-in-Car video installs, MCTs and any other technology mounted in public Safety vehicles as required. Evaluates requests for radio and wireless communication projects and capital improvement programs. Conducts resarch and stays abreast of new innovations related to radio and wireless technologies. Participates in regional communications interoperability working groups. Works with other local, state, federal, and DoD agencies as it relates to the coordination of communications interoperability. Participates in emergency support events. Performs other duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Possession of an associate's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, or a related field; plus five years' network and/or telecommunications experience; or a bachelor's degree in such fields; plus three years' experience in network or telecommunications system design, analysis, installation, and troubleshooting, including some supervisory experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee is required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:At least five years of experience in a supervisory capacity.At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible hands-on experience in large multi-agency environment for radio and wireless enterprise networks.Working knowledge of the principles, practices, terminology and of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and services, network management and coordination.Knowledge and understanding of FCC policies and procedures.At least three years experience working with other local, state, federal and DoD agencies as it pertains to interoperable communications strategies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to correctly discern full spectrum of colors and use power and hand tools. Work is generally sedentary, performed in a normal office environment, lifting and carrying equipment and packages up to 50 pounds occasionally. All duties are performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
