The Position
Responsible for directing Commercial Communications strategies, with the Senior Director, Commercial Communications, for disease categories within Novo Nordisk Inc., providing seasoned communications expertise and partnership to leadership and other communicators. Responsible for overseeing the development and execution of integrated communications plans and the strategic planning and implementation for patient ambassadors and engagement, marketing/sponsorship programs, internal and field communications, issues management and select corporate image enhancement opportunities targeting key external stakeholders. Serves as a communications partner to senior leaders and works with the broader NNI Communications team to ensure commercial and patient communications plans include external and internal activities.
Relationships
This position reports to the Senior Director, Commercial Communications and has management responsibility. The position will interact with top management within NNI, including Marketing, Sales, Market Access, BioPharm & Strategy, CMR, Legal and Public Affairs. This position will also engage with various functions within NN/AS. Key external relationships include patients and key opinion leaders in all Novo Nordisk therapeutic areas, third-party advocacy organizations, media, public relations agencies and vendors.
Essential functions
Commercial communications and leadership:Oversees the development and implementation of proactive communications and media relations plans and strategies to support the business goals and strategies of Novo Nordisk, internally and externallyAdvises Senior Leadership on how to best communicate goals and objectives, both internally and externallyEnsures that there are strategic internal communications plans in place to support leadership and business milestones within NNIProvides counsel to ET leaders for external presentations and internal communications, working collaboratively across the NNI Communications TeamDrives positive media coverage for Novo Nordisk in business, financial and consumer press to enhance visibility of company and its brands in coordination with the NNI Media Relations leadDevelops key message platforms, prepares/coaches management for media interviews and external speaking opportunities; and works with reporters to shape/influence story coverageOversees or directs the activities of external public relations agenciesOversees management of commercial communications and marketing budgets; accountable for executing programs within budget parametersContract negotiationPatient ambassadors strategy and engagement:Oversight of strategy and direction for Novo Nordisk patient ambassadors and chefs, across therapeutic areas, including primary point of contact, selection and trainingLead cross-functional working group within Novo Nordisk to strengthen alignment around planning and execution of patient ambassador programs across all parts of the business, including diabetes, obesity and biopharmaceuticalsLiaise with HQ departments, assess and adapt global corporate patient relations activities for appropriate US implementation; collaborate with HQ colleagues to ensure US perspectives are incorporated in global plansIssues management:Conducts assessment of potential issues facing the commercial business and develops plans to anticipate and mitigate issuesServes as subject matter expert to NNI Communications in developing effective communication plans for the issue business ownerMeasurement:Charts progress and adjusts plans/tactics accordingly, Holds agencies accountable for delivering on measurement targetsEstablishes and follows through meaningful and measurable objectives for communications programs that are aligned with business goalsIdentifies and applies the best tools and technologies to measure and analyze results Physical Requirements 10-20% overnight travel required. Development of People Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way. QualificationsA bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, English or a related discipline requiredMinimum of 12 years of communications, public relations or relevant marketing experience, including within the pharmaceutical industry requiredMinimum of 3-5 years of direct supervisory experience requiredExperience in managing and working within a public relations agency environment preferredAbility to work under tight timelines, in what can be a stressful environment with limited planning or preparationAble to work effectively in a cross-functional, collaborative environment with global as well as regional considerations and, sometimes, political implicationsProven strategic planning, media relations and issues/crisis management skills are essential for this positionStrong communicator with ability to negotiate, persuade and counsel effectivelyStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management as well as with people from a variety of cultural backgroundsUnderstanding of social media platforms and digital strategies We commit to an inclusive recruitment process and equality of opportunity for all our job applicants.
