Duties
  • You will serve as senior and lead engineer with technical responsibilities that include research, development, manufacture/production, deployment and operational support of a range of programs for a variety of customers.
  • You will perform electronics engineering design and testing, countermeasures, acoustics, detection technologies, remote control systems, and/or associated fields, with emphasis on testing.
  • You will solve technical problems that are not covered by established Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) procedures.
  • You will interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate Research and Development (R and D initiatives dealing with unique and controversial problems requiring development of novel approaches and concepts.
  • You will work as a team member on various projects and lead complex initiatives.
  • You will collaborate with other more senior engineers on complex programs and technical initiatives.
  • You will lead and mentor junior engineers.

    • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
    • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
    • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

      Qualifications

      In addition to the basic education requirements, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, ND-03 (GS-09/11 equivalent grade level) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer, leading electronic system projects to coordinate testing and evaluation of Infrared, Radio Frequency (RF), or electronic systems to assess and resolve problems with Countermeasure technology or Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technology for the improvement of countermeasure efforts.

      Education

      Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

      Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

      Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.       Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

      Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
