Summary

As the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Ambulatory Care Service Line, in collaboration with the ACOS for Ambulatory Care and the Administrative Officer, the physician is responsible for oversight of the primary care clinics at the main medical center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). The Physician is academically and clinically prepared to be responsible for managing the full spectrum of primary care.



Duties

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring that the primary care clinic schedules are appropriate, addressing space issues, labor mapping, and resolving conflicts as they arise.
  • Responsible for the continued implementation of the PACT model of care at the main medical center and CBOCs. Provide general oversight of the medical center based educational activities within the Ambulatory Care Service Line such as the resident continuity clinic, NP/PA students, and medical students.
  • Responsible for all necessary administrative functions of the Ambulatory Care Service Line in collaboration with the Ambulatory Care Administrative Officer and administrative staff
  • Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring outcome measures of healthcare problems of patients presenting with internal medicine concerns. A nonexclusive list includes the following: performing histories and physicals, initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens, ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies, initiating consults to specialty services, prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy and the VA formulary, providing appropriate follow up care, and triage of patients with non-medicine complaints, diseases, and injuries to appropriate disciplines for diagnosis and treatment.
  • The physician will work in a team setting with other physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support staff assigned to perform duties to accomplish the treatment of ICVAHCS veterans.
  • Computer skills are essential as the ICVAHCS is fully computerized for note documentation, entering orders and requesting consults.
  • The Primary Care Physician will be required to attend staff meetings, and complete peer review evaluations.
  • Supervise primary care physicians and NP/PAs.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement

Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday
