ResponsibilitiesMonitor news, trends, and issues within business, the economy, and personal finance subject areas to pitch and assign stories that make complex and contradictory issues make sense for our readers, challenge conventional wisdom, and empower readers to make sound decisions about money.
Responsible for writing, assigning, and editing the work of freelance writersCultivate and maintain professional relationships with a network of freelance and staff writers.
In collaboration with the editorial leadership, you will develop and implement a multi-pronged editorial strategy to maximize search, social, and recirculation traffic.
Additional Information The position is covered under Salon's Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.Must be legally able to work in the U.S.Regular Monday-Friday schedule with occasional (3x/year) weekend and holiday on-call availability.
Requirements5+ years of professional journalism experience, with a focus on business or finance reporting (cryptocurrency experience is a plus).Strong writing skills for digital publications.
Excellent editing, fact-checking, and proofreading skills, with expertise in AP Style.Knowledge of professional journalism standards and best practices.
Understanding of Salon's voice and editorial mission.
Proficiency in digital analytics tools (e.g., Chartbeat) and CMS.Effective communication skills.
Excellent time management skills.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent newsroom training.
