Work hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. during the school year with occasional evening and weekend commitments. This position is salaried, exempt, and benefit-eligible (medical, dental, and vision insurance, and more).


The Spanish teacher is responsible for meeting the academic and social-emotional needs of Middle School and Elementary-aged children through side-by-side teaching.

The teacher is an excellent communicator and collaborator who cultivates supportive and appropriate relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/caregivers. The Spanish teacher is dedicated to professional growth in support of the School's Mission and program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (OVERVIEW) - Teaching, Advising, Classroom Management, and Care of the Environment:

  • Upholds AMI principles and pursues professional growth, including written goals and progress in support of the School's Mission and continuous improvement of the student experience
  • Interacts with colleagues in a respectful and collegial manner that fosters a collaborative and positive team culture
  • Cultivates a positive classroom and school culture, a commitment to social justice and identity-aware teaching and advising
  • Plans and prepares lessons for effective teaching, following a schedule as prepared by the Elementary and Middle School Program Directors
  • Develops developmentally appropriate, safe, predictable, and supportive relationships with children and adolescents
  • Observes and responds to a wide range of learning needs of children and adolescents
  • Carries out specific assignments as determined by the Elementary and Middle School Program Directors
  • Upholds professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, courtesy, and discretion
  • Honors the confidentiality of School, student, and family information
  • Complies with the policies and procedures as articulated in the Staff Handbook
  • Models and participates in care of the physical environment at Childpeace and Metro
  • Assumes leadership of an international student exchange program for the purpose of cultivation of independence, cultural sensitivity, global citizenship, and world language immersion through homestays and academic exchange
  • Communicates clearly and consistently with families about the student's academic and social-emotional learning through progress reports, conferences, email, and phone calls
  • Represents the Elementary and Middle School programs in a knowledgeable and professional manner in all family interactions.
  • Reports to the Elementary and Middle School Program Directors for evaluation and professional growth
  • Is committed to ongoing professional growth in Montessori, subject expertise, and social-emotional learning
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BA in Spanish or related field required
  • MA in Spanish or related field and/or related experience preferable
  • At least two years demonstrated effective Spanish teaching experience required in elementary and/or middle school.
  • Comprehensive approach to language proficiency, including grammar study, listening comprehension, speaking practice, and cultural sensitivity to global Spanish
  • Experience planning and chaperoning travel with adolescent students, ideally international travel is preferred
  • Use of the internet, e-mail, and other appropriate technology applications is essential
  • Understanding and experience with Montessori pedagogy or other progressive education principles including student-centered teaching, project-based learning, and performance-based assessment is preferable
  • Satisfactory clearance of a background check and eligibility to legally work in the United States
  • Native language speaker preferred
