General Summary of Position
Assists in the design, implementation and maintenance of the surgical posting application. May interact with the IS staff in regards to system changes and ongoing issues. Analyzes and evaluates information needed by all clinical leads in multiple services. Assist in ensuring a surgical preference card is attached to each scheduled case. Maintains all mapping of CPT codes to each surgical case posted. Assists the RN OR Scheduling Coordinator with ensuring an optimized surgical schedule that supports OR efficiency. Serves as an adjunct to admitting department to accurately complete preregistration process. Liaison to physician offices to identify and collect required information for posted cases. Assist RNOR Scheduling Coordinator with the management of surgeon block time defined by the Perioperative Block Committee. If Charge Entry, responsible for verification and entry of all post case data billing elements. Verifies anesthesia data for post case and surgical charge documentation. Reconciles and resolves payment discrepancies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Assists with ongoing communication and education processes for physician's office staff. Communicates with OR staff, Finance, Central Billing Office, Physician Offices and any other members of teams and ancillary departments as necessary to ensure positive outcomes.Assists with standard reporting, and maintenance of post-operative cases.Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Assists in the orientation of new personnel per unit policy. Participates in the development and evaluation of unit standards and protocols.Develops and maintains information support in alignment with MedStar Health strategic objectives.Interprets preoperative case posting data, using clinical competencies and assessment skills, to create an efficient operative surgical schedule. Evaluates case placement, duration of surgery, appropriate staffing resources and post-operative placement using knowledge of disease process, anatomy and physiology, and surgical procedures.Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.Participates in the implementation of improvements, enhancements, updates and modifications to the surgical posting application.Participates in the management of database for the surgical posting application. Consistently maintains data dictionaries for Instrumentation, Equipment, CPT codes, and Lawson Inventory for all surgical preference card functionality.Serves as the Information Systems liaison between users and departments using and/or effected by the clinical and surgical posting applications.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent with emphasis on information systems, business administration or healthcare related field with course work in systems analysis and development
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology

Experience

  • 1-2 years related experience in a healthcare setting; experience in system analysis and development, customer service, interdisciplinary interaction and information systems

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of surgical posting operations and services.
  • Understanding of surgical posting systems and their impact to clinicians, surgical hospital staff and application development team.
  • Analytical ability to solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication, to effectively interface with internal/external customers
