MSOC is seeking a highly motivated person to join the Software Engineering Department as a Section Manager. The Section Manager will ensure that software developers are assigned to perform all required software services for approved work requests. The manager will ensure that new personnel are hired and subsequently trained to successfully perform MSOC software development activities. The manager will directly supervise several Software Team leads for implementation of all group functions.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead, staff, and Integrate section of diverse skills, employees, and interns from different MSOC Companies
  • Plan and execute training of new personnel
  • Review and develop budgetary estimates and staffing needs analysis as required to evaluate new or modified group tasks
  • Provide leadership through the evaluation and coaching of individuals to determine the best fit for assignments, the overall success of the group, and the success of the individual members
  • Ensure that all group processes and records are kept up to date and accurate
  • Communicate group status with MSOC management and NASA personnel, including FOD leadership
  • Ensure support is provided for operational changes and critical mission events as required
  • Understand and communicate status of complex operational issues to the team
  • Communicate status of urgent events to upper management and other stakeholders
  • Evaluate risks and develop mitigations as required
  • Review and investigate Human Errors and develop Corrective Action Plans as required
  • Maintain group web sites and shared folders
  • Provide administrative management support tasks such as performance reviews, merit planning, career development, awards and recognition, technical and leadership training, travel authorizations, disciplinary actions, office assignments, approval of new hardware and software, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned
Basic Requirements:
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or experience in supervision or management
  • Demonstrated Innovative problem solver
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to interact across organizations and all levels of personnel
  • Effective handling of multiple tasks and ability to respond quickly to changes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and customer requirements
  • Strong decision making and problem resolution capabilities
  • Ability to support a flexible and dynamic work schedule
Desired skills:
  • Familiarity with the Mission Control Center (MCC), Mission Training Center (MTC) and Space Vehicle Mockup (SVMF) facilities Systems at the Johnson Space Center
  • Experience with ISS and/or other Space operations
  • Knowledge of FOD:
    • Vision, Mission, and Values
    • Foundations of Flight Operations
    • Organization
  • Demonstrated ability to develop personnel and perform succession planning
  • Demonstrated interest and motivation to learn and grow as a leader
Qualifications:

Holds a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college in a related field and normally possesses a minimum of 5 years of professional experience and specialized training related to human space flight operations, control center and training operations, and/or ground or space network operations.
