Scouting Intern

D.C. United is seeking applicants for a Scouting Internship Position. The candidate will assist with all aspects of scouting prospective academy players for D.C. United Academy as directed by the Academy Scouting Director. This position will offer the candidate hands-on experience in a high-level collaborative team-sport environment. The candidate will gain an understanding of the daily workings and the environment in elite sport, including the role of scouting in a professional soccer environment. This internship is aimed towards those in a sports related degree or aspiring coaches looking to gain experience in elite level soccer. The individual must possess a strong desire to learn and grow. This is an unpaid internship.

Fall season: August 12 – December 13

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Working towards/possess a bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Sports Analytics or a related area from an institution of higher education
  • Must demonstrate the intention and desire to work as a soccer Scout or Coach
  • Must demonstrate willingness to work with data entry and analysis software
  • Must demonstrate willingness to watch and evaluate game film and submit reports
  • Must demonstrate willingness to evaluate players live and submit reports
  • Must possess excellent communication, organization and attention to detail skills
  • Must possess willingness to stay up to date with constantly changing schedules
  • Must possess willingness to act as a scout coordinator
  • Must possess a growth mindset

Preferred Qualifications
  • 0-2 years' experience as a scout or coach
  • Experience working with the sport of soccer
  • Experience working in a team-sport setting
  • Computer literate; Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Mac
  • Knowledge and understanding of the youth soccer landscape in Maryland, Virginia and D.C.

All candidates must have a valid driver's license and complete a successful background check.
