Job Description

Under general supervision as an Architectural Assistant II, you will perform a variety of architectural duties in the office and field in connection with architectural design and the preparation of comprehensive architectural services for city construction projects. After joining the team, you will be assigned to work in different studios within the Bureau of Architecture: Healthcare Clinic and Zuckerberg Campus Studio(s), Public Utilities Commission Studio, which are focused on Administration/Office, Lab & Operational buildings, & The Rec & Park / MTA (Municipal Transportation Agency) / HSH (Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housing studios.

Important and Essential Duties:

Your duties as an Architectural Assistant II may include but are not limited to the following:

Prepare and design preliminary architectural/landscape architectural drawings, plans, elevations and sections for a variety of building, landscapes, construction and maintenance projects which includes calculating dimensions, developing component parts, plans, elevations and sections utilizing established architectural/landscape architectural practices, symbols and drafting techniques.
Visit project sites and make routine field observations to verify that conditions conform to contract documents and shop drawings; take field measurements and document existing conditions.
Assist in the preparation of contract specifications, documents and preliminary cost estimate for the construction or conversion of buildings and/or landscape architectural projects.
Assist in the coordination and review of architectural/landscape architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical drawings in order to assure that drawing components of a project meet with design, programming, and legal requirements.
Participate in meetings with design professionals, consultant engineers, contractors and agencies to discuss and resolve issues relative to projects.
Prepare written reports, summaries and correspondence related to architectural/landscape architectural activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education, training, and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain this would be:

_ Education:_

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in architecture/landscape architecture or an architecture/landscape architecture related field (such as Environmental Design or Interior Architecture) from an accredited college or university.

_ Experience:_

Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the architectural field including architectural design, architectural detailing, construction documents, programming, preliminary cost budgeting, specification coordination and review, and construction administration, all under the direction of a licensed architect.

** License and Certification:**

Possession of a valid California driver's license.

_ Substitution:_

A professional degree in Architecture/Landscape Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture/Landscape Architecture or Master of Architecture/Landscape Architecture from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required education.

** CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**

Valid Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid State of California driver's license with no restrictions that would prohibit them from legally performing the essential functions and duties of the role.

Desirable Qualifications:

The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify candidates advancing to the interview process and/or to identify job finalist(s) at the end of the selection process when referred for hiring.
Proficient in AutoCAD and/or REVIT.
Autodesk and/or Revit training certificate a plus.
Proficient in Sketch-Up or Photoshop.
Working knowledge of PowerPoint and/or Illustrator.
Extensive design and/or construction document and detailing experience a plus.
A working knowledge of state and local building and planning codes.
Experience working on public sector architectural projects, particularly Healthcare, Recreation & Parks, Housing and/or Homeless Shelters, and/or Administration/Office, Lab and/or Operational buildings.
LEED professional accreditation a plus.

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ):

Candidates may be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.
