About the Job

The Minnesota Journalism Center (MJC) seeks to hire a dedicated staff member in community journalism who can serve as a project manager for a temporary assignment. The staff member will support efforts to coordinate and conduct interviews and other outreach efforts with the professional journalism community statewide across Greater Minnesota, working closely with MJC director and other staff around assessing and identifying community needs to inform the Center's longer-term strategic planning efforts. This position pays $50.15 per hour.

Job Responsibilities:
Project Management and Coordination (75%)
Working closely with the MJC leadership team to complete a wide range of project management and coordination tasks, including identifying key stakeholders from the professional journalism communities, recruiting participants and conducting interviews and listening sessions, summarizing insights for both internal and external audiences.
Creating, following, and monitoring work plans and timelines for these MJC outreach and interviewing efforts.
Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports. Ensuring all needed documentation is current and properly filed and stored.

Communication and Dissemination (25%)
Acting as the point of contact and communicating project status to the MJC leadership team. Communicating timeline changes and new information to project teams.
Participating in the relaunch of the MJC's website and newsletter through producing journalistic content documenting insights from ongoing interviews with local journalists and other key stakeholders.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
BA/BS plus at least 6 years of work experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 10 years
At least 5 years prior work experience in a newsroom or other journalistic environment
Demonstrated knowledge of the local media ecosystem in Minnesota across a variety of types of organizations
Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate projects
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.
Willingness to conduct interviews and in a variety of locations (e.g., administer surveys at state/county fairs, collect observational data at retail locations)

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience working as a journalist in Minnesota
Project management experience
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work with diverse communities
Prior experience in a higher education setting
