Summary

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

The incumbent is accountable to the Chief, Vascular under the Surgical Services Department and is responsible for managing the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art vascular care to include vascular consult/referral review and triage, coordination of vascular clinics using the principles of advanced clinical access, pre-operative assessment, operative intervention and post-operative care, and involvement in contracting with local facilities. Vascular surgeons are trained in the diagnosis and management of diseases affecting all parts of the vascular system, excluding conditions that affect the vessels within the heart and the brain. They have completed an intense training in Vascular surgery which allows them to manage vascular diseases with treatment alternatives ranging from medical management to operative intervention. They can perform operative interventions both by minimally invasive (endovascular) and open operative approaches. They provide both clinical and administrative services at the VA.

The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Vascular surgeons treat complications arising from: diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and smoking.
  • Discuss all the non-operative, medical versus surgical treatment options, as well risks and benefits of surgery with the patient.
  • Document in CPRS in a timely manner, participate in process improvement, and participate in bi-annual Medical Staff activity.
  • Provide direct patient care to include, but are not limited to history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, ordering follow up studies, and clinical reminder completion as applicable.
  • Will have one day per week of vascular laboratory reading assignment where the vascular surgeon is expected to read/finalize the impression of vascular ultrasounds performed in our clinic.
