Scheduled Hours40Position SummaryThe Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.

We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 11.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world's highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.

Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.

The technician is a vital part of the physical security team on the WUSM campus and will plan and maintain the access control low-voltage systems, maintain the access control hardware, low-voltage wired components, and electronic equipment. They will also assist the locksmiths with cutting and issuing keys and building cores as needed.Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Acts as the primary low-voltage technician for the physical security team, prioritizing work and making an initial assessment of conditions and service needs.Conducts maintenance on low-voltage security systems.Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and completes repairs of low-voltage electrical system card readers.Estimates labor time and requisition materials needed, and requests assistance from other maintenance staff for long-range projects.Follows through on work in progress to verify proper facility conditions are restored.Keeps Physical Security supervisors aware of facility conditions, problems, and needs.Maintains effective communication with other facility maintenance coordinators and maintenance staff.Assists locksmith and technician teams as needed by cutting and issuing new and replacement keys and building door cores.Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Must be able to lift and carry tools and material weighing more than 50 pounds and be able to raise and carry with assistance items weighing 100 pounds.Climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, and crouches to gain access to wiring and equipment. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree, college credits, or trade school/vocational training in related field(s).Knowledge and ability to cut keys on various machine types.Demonstrates professionalism, respect for colleagues and stakeholders, unwavering integrity in all actions, dedicated pursuit of excellence, and a track record of consistent dedication to achieving organizational goals.Five years of related experience.Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to diagnose and resolve varied maintenance problems involving modern electro-mechanical/electronic access control hardware, manual locks, and similar conditions.Resolves maintenance problems promptly will avoid disruption/delay in the work environment to staff or the public.Knowledge and experience in using power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and knockout punches. Near-visual acuity is needed to read equipment, and diagrams and inspect parts.Can read and interpret maps, instruction manuals, specifications, work site directions, blueprints, and written/verbal instructions.Depth perception, field of vision, and color vision needed to fit and install parts.Good customer service skills and the ability to communicate with diverse groups of people.Demonstrated ability to perform varied maintenance tasks.Demonstrated proficiency to perform the position being filled.Must display the PRIDE Core values of professionalism, respect, integrity, dedication, and excellence at all times.
