The University of Charleston's SAVE Program seeks candidates for a part-time position providing counseling and outreach services to UC students who have experienced domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence, and/or stalking. The successful candidate will provide individual counseling, as well as referrals to outside community agencies, advocates, psychiatric, and/or medical personnel. This position is funded by the Department of Justice and Office on Violence Against Women's Grant to Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking on Campus. This position will work closely with the Counseling Department and report to the SAVE Project Director.
The position is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice until September 30, 2025, and therefore contingent on the renewal of the award. Although the position is paid for with federal funds, the individual will be governed by University of Charleston policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Provides direct psychological counseling services to enrolled University of Charleston students, including short- and longer-term individual counseling and crisis intervention while adhering to the APA Ethical Standards and Code of Conduct and applicable West Virginia state laws.
Serve as a victim advocate and/or support grant initiatives for victim services.
Provides accurate diagnoses, treatment planning, and uses standardized assessments and empirically based treatments as appropriate.
Collaborates and makes referrals to community advocates, medical staff for evaluation or medication; and assists and coordinates hospitalization and outpatient treatment discharge plans.
Completes work independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results by supervisor.
Needs a solid understanding, and an ability to use and apply different concepts, theories, principles, practices, and terminology within counseling or clinical psychology.
Serves as one of the Confidential Reporters for Title IX issues.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work
Candidate is required to have a full license or be license eligible as a Mental Health Counselor/Clinician in the State of West Virginia
Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Computer literacy and data analysis
Strong communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking.
Experience working with minoritized populations, such as the LGBTQ+ community and/or BIPOC communities.
Evidence of interest in working with a diverse student population and demonstrated multicultural competence.
Experience providing outreach.
Pay Range: $25-$35/hour, depending on previous experience.
