Bristol, Virginia, United States Christmas Cove Improvement Association (C.C.I.A.) Full time

The CCIA

The Christmas Cove Improvement Association (CCIA) in Christmas Cove, Maine, is a family-oriented private club that offers racquet sports, sailing, swimming and social activities to its member families during the summer months. Located in Midcoast Maine, the Club occupies an attractive plot on a picturesque harbor. Families come to Christmas Cove to enjoy the rugged beauty and fresh air, the community of other families, and the athletic and outdoor opportunities. The Club has a natural focus on multi-generational gatherings and events and has a strong sense of tradition.

The Club Management Position

The Board of the CCIA seeks to recruit new Club Management to begin in the summer of 2025, and to hopefully serve for many summers to come. The Club's long-time Co-Managers, who have served for the last 12 years, will be retiring at the end of this 2024 summer season. Given the scope of responsibilities, the Club Management role has most recently been shared by a married couple that has split the duties according to their respective skills and interests. They have also brought their children along to enjoy all of their summers at the CCIA. The Board is very interested in hiring another couple for this position, given the practicality of balancing the duties across two people and also allowing for another family to participate in the CCIA summer experience. However, the position may also be held by a single individual.

The Club Management position entails overseeing the operations of the Club from mid June through mid/late August (minimum of 9 weeks). The main responsibility is managing an outstanding Junior Sports Program and overseeing the staff for sailing, tennis, swimming and art (~30 people in total). This involves coaching and mentoring the staff, maintaining a culture of excellence, and ensuring that all CCIA children have a positive learning experience. The Managers are expected to nurture an energetic teaching environment with strong camaraderie amongst staff members. Other responsibilities include supporting the Club's social calendar/events, handling the administrative and financial matters related to seasonal operations, and assisting with management of the campus facilities. The Managers report to the President of the CCIA but also receive direction from the Club's Treasurer and VPs for Junior Sports, Nautical, Tennis, Social, Technology and Buildings and Grounds.

  • 10+ years of experience working in the field of education (secondary education or higher education). Ideally this includes a mix of experience working across athletics, academics and/or administration. The ideal candidate(s) will have experience working at a secondary school, college or university, another family-oriented club, a summer camp or outdoor education program.
  • Experience managing a staff in one context or another.
  • Undergraduate degree required, with an advanced degree preferred. Should you have interest in the role, please submit a CV and cover letter to the CCIA Manager Search Committee at by April 22, If you would like to recommend someone for the role, please email the Search Committee at the same address.)
