Summary

This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administrator (DEA), Office of Forensic Science, Digital Evidence Laboratory.

This position(s) primary purpose is to serve as a senior digital forensic examiner, analyzes seized digital evidence, performs on-site acquisition/duplication of digital evidence for DEA offices, testifies in Federal and state courts as an expert witness, and provides subject matter expertise and advice to both DEA investigators and junior examiners in the laboratory.

As a , your typical work assignments may include:

  • Performing digital evidence examinations of seized objects submitted by DEA offices worldwide.
  • Reviewing forensic images, virtual images, and other data sources for recovery of potentially relevant information.
  • Advising investigators, analysts, prosecutors, and the court on the nature, reliability, and significance of information recovered from digital evidence.
  • Developing plans to investigate alleged crime, violation, or suspicious activity utilizing computers and the Internet.
  • Recommending, developing, implementing, or reviewing enhancements to technical training, laboratory and field evidence equipment or procedures, analytical platforms, or other activities based on substantial analysis and evaluation of needs arising from technical advancements.
  • Mentoring or advising lower graded Digital Forensic Examiners (DFEs) or field Digital Evidence Technicians (DETs).
