Summary/Objective

The Electro-Mechanical Maintenance / Controls Technician is part of our maintenance team that will be performing both the daily support and troubleshooting of process equipment as well as the execution of the preventative/ predictive maintenance activities for all equipment in our First Line Pharma manufacturing facility. Primary responsibilities will focus on thorough understanding and support of the various forms of processing and manufacturing equipment with a commitment to continuous learning.

Essential Functions / Four Most Important Tasks

  1. Performs preventative/ predictive maintenance and calibration on production equipment. This includes planning activities to be performed, scheduling manpower and/or contractors as required. Works with key remote programming support services to trouble shoot equipment and to ensure proper operating conditions.
  2. Supports production through equipment on call maintenance and upkeep for the general facility. Works with area engineers to identify and maintain the subsystems that enable production to keep process equipment operating on time and in full. Executes work orders through SAP as required.
  3. Performs preventive maintenance in accordance with the predictive/preventive maintenance plans to ensure production lines are able to produce on time and in full. Follows up on equipment performance, suggests and introduces improvements.
  4. Participates in the development and upgrade of maintenance procedures as needed. Identifies, sets up and monitors the consumption and usage of critical spares with awareness of inventory flow and overall budget. Oversees contractor work on site.

  • Monitors equipment capability to ensure machines are functioning in accordance with parameters.
  • Monitor the preventive maintenance schedules in order to minimize machine down time.
  • Lead problem-solving sessions to determine root cause of problem; recommend / affect corrective actions.
  • Adheres to all safety rules in accordance with SOP's, GMP as well as federal, state and local safety regulations. Expected to demonstrate our Company values and Core Competencies.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required in order to meet production needs of customers. Willingness to work in shifts (late or early hours, weekends, and overtime if necessary).
  • Is open, respectful, and helpful. Constructively contributes with own skills to problem solving in team. Shares and accepts information and knowledge.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to elements including environmental heat and high heat from moving mechanical parts, small parts may be encountered on the floor, and dust particles may float in the air. Work is done in both office space and in the plant where safety is a critical concern. PPE must be worn.

The Maintenance Technician must stand for prolonged periods of time, lift up to 50 lbs, carry, push, and pull up to 30 lbs and gripping of 20 lbs. Technicians will experience substantial movements (motions) of arms, hands, wrists, and/or fingers. Technicians must pass a vison test (with or without corrective lenses) as all work involves sharpness of different types as well as depth perception, color and field. Must wear proper personal protective equipment to include but not limited to gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety glasses, gowning, etc.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

The department has 5 shifts to cover a 24/7 operation.

Job Requirements
  • Knowledge and experience in installing, troubleshooting, and repairing low voltage controls and circuitry, variable frequency drives, servo drives and motors, and specialized controllers for temperature and pressure
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of Information Technology (IT) system, network infrastructure, and computer system design, as it relates to control system integration.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) applications.
  • Read and interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficient with startup and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) applications.
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of control systems.
  • Perform instrument loop checks and calibrations.
  • Possess and apply hands-on electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Proficient with multimeter, signal generators, and other hand tools.
  • Maintain, test and repair a variety of instrumentation and test equipment.
  • Set up test equipment and conduct bench tests on performance and reliability of equipment.
  • Work safely, never endangering self, others, or property.
  • Equipment repair: Diagnosing problems, disassembling equipment, and repairing or replacing broken parts.
  • Know how and when to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Further Job Requirements
  • Ability to troubleshoot, thru the integration of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, gearing, pumps and other integrated processing equipment.
  • Experience in reading technical assembly drawings and sketches, procuring, fabricating, and assembling complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience testing various electrical or mechanical components.
  • Strong technical competence in industrial automation and process machinery. This will include maintenance, repair, and operation of electro-mechanical systems.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a mechanical and electrical technical field; 2 years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar applications.
  • Strategically thinks and leverages knowledge to solve complex problems.
  • Knowledge of calibration tools and software i.e., Digital Test gauges, Pressure transmitters, Pressure Transducers, Pressure switches, and Temperature transmitters.
  • Knowledge of Siemens hardware and software.
  • Certified Controls Systems Technician (CCST) training is a plus.
  • Works well in a team as well as independently, and the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.
  • Experienced with medium to high voltage electronics, 110vac 1ph – 480vac 3ph power distribution.
