We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Manager of Data Engineering to lead and mentor our team of talented data engineers. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in Python, Snowflake, and data pipeline orchestration, combined with proven leadership skills to drive our data engineering initiatives forward. This role will involve overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of efficient, scalable data solutions, ensuring data accuracy and integrity, and aligning our data strategy with business objectives. As a working manager, you will also actively participate in hands-on technical work, contributing to the team's success.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Mentorship:
- Lead and manage a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, encouraging professional growth and development.
- Strategic Planning:
- Define and execute the data engineering strategy, aligning with organizational goals and business needs.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in data engineering.
· Project Management:
- Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of complex data pipelines from various sources, including APIs, files, and databases.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to high-quality standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
· Technical Implementation:
- Architect and implement orchestration workflows using tools such as Dagster or Airflow to ensure smooth, automated data processing.
- Build out automated AI workflows using LLMs like ChatGPT, integrating advanced AI capabilities into data processes.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity across multiple data sources and systems.
- Stay current with advances in data engineering technologies and methodologies, integrating them into our ecosystem.
· Working Manager Role:
- Actively participate in hands-on technical work, contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and orchestration workflows.
- Balance managerial responsibilities with technical tasks to lead by example and drive team success.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with analytics engineers, data scientists, and analysts to support data modeling and analysis efforts.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights.
- Champion the use of CI/CD pipelines for automating testing and deployment processes, ensuring seamless transitions from development to production environments.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the data engineering team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on Python programming and Snowflake.
- Proven track record of building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and orchestration solutions.
- Extensive experience with orchestration tools such as Dagster or Airflow.
- Proficiency in SQL and database design principles.
- Familiarity with streaming technologies like Kafka and log-based replication is a plus.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage tight deadlines and deliver high-quality projects on time.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring technical teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
- Experience in building automated AI workflows using LLMs like ChatGPT is highly desirable.
