Job Description

The Department of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting a Development Technician 3 to join our vibrant academic department with an accredited engineering program in a full-time, state-funded role. The Development Technician supports and facilitates departmental goals, objectives and requirements through a variety of responsibilities. Major duties of the technician position include performing routine maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment, including software/driver updates, ensuring the safety of all individuals in laboratory settings by conducting safety training sessions; assisting students during instructional lab session; overseeing lab access and setups; procuring necessary lab supplies and equipment; and managing lab fees.

Additional responsibilities involve contributing to department and college events such as lab tours, short courses and lab demonstrations; participating in design construction and testing of experiments; assisting with departmental meetings including setting up of audio visual equipment; coordinating with facilities and contractors for lab repairs, office movement and relocation, and infrastructural projects; maintaining records of department assets, surplus items, and sensitive equipment; coordinating and overseeing annual inventory activities; and fulfilling other duties as assigned. The Level 3 technician will collaborate with faculty and students on the design and development of specialized equipment. This position has a preferred start date of 9/1/2024 and will report to the Department Chair.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and two (2) years of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates with experience in electronic theory, principles and practices to include AC/DC, solid state, integrated circuits, microprocessor devices, conventional symbols and sources of information, and basic programing skills are encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates who possess good written and oral communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, mechanical fabrication abilities, soldering experience, budgeting and accounting skills, organizational proficiency, and the ability to frequently lift and move equipment weighing 50+ lbs. are encouraged to apply.
Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 35 (Entry, Step 01 $30.85hr - Step 05 $36.69/hr)

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
