Temple, Texas, United States Veterans Health Administration Full time

Duties include but are not limited to:
Serves as a technical expert in industrial hygiene for a wide variety of industrial hygiene and environmental functions.

Programs managed include ergonomics, chemical exposure assessment, thermal stress, hazardous noise, moisture and mold management, personal protective equipment, emergency management, indoor air quality, lasers, Green Environmental Management Systems and other environmental and occupational health issues.


Supervises a staff that consists of:
(2) Industrial Hygienist (GEMS), GS , (1) Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, GS , (2) Safety and Occupational Health Specialists (GS and (1) Program Support Assistant (OA) GS positions.
Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.

Conducts supervisory recruitment/selection activities for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and EEO and diversity objectives.

Develops, modifies, and interprets performance standards.

Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.

Assigns work per an employee's particular area of responsibility and requirements of the assignment and ensures each employee understands the priorities, applicable station memorandums and SOPs, and performance requirements pertaining to their area of responsibility.

Responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of program policies and objectives for the administration of the facility's occupational health and environmental programs which include industrial hygiene, hazardous materials and chemical waste management, hazard communications, blood borne pathogens, thermal stress, confined spaces, employee education and monitoring, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, ergonomics, and environmental management.

Coordinates the results of industrial hygiene assessments with employee health unit to assist in establishing priorities and auditing program implementation for physical screening and medical surveillance of employees with possible exposure to toxic or physical agents.

Manages a three-five-year equipment replacement plan for special test equipment to evaluate hospital environments.
Manages compliance with OSHA health and safety requirements and accreditation preparations for hazardous materials and waste management.

Responsible for all GEMS activities to include regulatory compliance with EPA, TCEQ and local requirements for clean water, air quality, storm water, solid waste, tank management and all others.

Manages prioritized risk assessments of CTVHCS workplaces ensuring potential environmental or health problems are addressed.

Manages the evaluation of proposed new work processes, new equipment, and engineering controls for construction projects to ensure incorporation of adequate measures for the prevention of occupational disease hazards.


Work Schedule:
Compressed tour - 9 hour days and one 8 hour day per pay period. Tours beginning as early as 7:30am

The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work.
