The Government Relations Manager leads the execution of NAED's Government Relations strategy for the United States federal and state governments, developing and growing relationships with key political, legislative, regulatory, and electrical industry stakeholders that ultimately benefit electrical distributors. This position is based in Washington, D.C. NAED headquarters in St. Louis, MO. Manager will be required to periodically participate in meetings at HQ and at industry conferences across the United States. Estimated travel is 10 to 15%.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Senior Vice President of Government Relations to develop and implement NAED's legislative and regulatory strategy, policy agenda, and activities.
  • Actively advocate for NAED's issue agenda with legislators, staff, and governmental agencies through direct lobbying, coalition building, communications, and other means.
  • Create support/opposition papers and communications to promote NAED's position on issues to elected officials, regulators, staff, membership, and the media.
  • Build and enhance professional relationships with industry member and association government relations teams and represent NAED in relevant policy-based coalitions.
  • Manage all aspects of NAEDPAC leveraging NAED staff and volunteer leadership relationships to facilitate fundraising, ensure scrupulous compliance and accurate and timely disclosure reporting.
  • Create and manage content for government relations section of NAED website, tED Magazine, and NAED Washington Wire newsletters and videos and present at industry and member company meetings and executive briefings as needed.
  • Arrange/coordinate NAED's DC or state capital leadership meetings and events. Prepare related documents, including but not limited to policy papers, background briefs and personnel information.
  • Encourage and enable NAED members' political engagement including organizing member visits to DC and state capitols and legislative visits to members' facilities.
  • Develop and execute initiatives to grow NAED's legislative program.
  • Accurately compile and file required disclosure reporting with the US House of Representatives and Federal Election Commission.
  • Other tasks as assigned. Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree. Concentration in energy policy, public affairs, or a related field is preferred.
    • Registered lobbyist or ability to work as registered lobbyist in the United States.
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in public policy advocacy, lobbying, federal legislative or agency staff or committee work. Subject matter or policy expertise in issues relating to energy issues is strongly preferred.
    • Existing relationships with key leadership, committees or agencies relating to electrical industry is strongly preferred.
    • Proven ability to effectively deliver presentations and interact with executive-level leadership.
    • Must demonstrate integrity and credibility with legislative and industry leaders, members and staff.
