Primary Purpose:
The Fertilizer Market Manager is responsible for driving growth and safeguarding Norfolk Southern's $200M fertilizer franchise. This role requires a strategic approach to managing and expanding our market share within the fertilizer market, while ensuring alignment with the company's broader goals and objectives. The Fertilizer Market Manager plays a crucial role in growing carload market share, maximizing profitability, and ensuring Norfolk Southern's continued success in the competitive fertilizer market.
Principal Duties:
- Market Leadership: Manage and enhance Norfolk Southern's position in the fertilizer market by setting competitive pricing strategies and fostering strong, long-term customer relationships.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Monitor and analyze key performance indicators, interpret data trends, and report on market performance to inform decision-making and strategy development.
- Capital Investment and Service Improvement: Identify and advocate for necessary capital investments and service enhancements to meet evolving market demands and encourage the transition of transportation modes to rail, ensuring Norfolk Southern remains a preferred partner in the fertilizer sector.
Job Related Experience:
- Minimum Level: 3 or more years of experience in or business-to-business (B2B) sales/marketing
Education and Preferred Majors:
- Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (MS, BS)
- Business – Marketing, Management, and Sales
Knowledge and Skills:
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel and possess a working knowledge of at least one business intelligence tool (such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.) as it relates to business usage.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize large, complex data sets and provide insights to advance business objectives
- Project management skills, strong business acumen and leadership skills, with sound time management and attention-to-detail, and ability to be a self-starter and work independently
- Process improvement skills, and project management skills for a cross-functional context
- Ability to think analytically
- Ability to develop written and presentation material for broad audiences, and ability to effectively influence stakeholders without direct authority
- Ability to compile and present market and financial data
- Ability to establish rapport and relationships with individuals at multiple levels internally and externally
