VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse:
Total-Rewards-of-an-Allied-Health-VA-Career-Licensed Practical Nurse - The primary duties may include but are not limited to:Major duties of the LPN - Inpatient Mental Health include, but are not limited to:


Provides full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems, completing assigned duties which involve performing nonstandard and specialized practical nursing activities.

Completes patient focused assessments, recognizing risk factors and/or signs and symptoms of withdrawal.
Completes clinical reminders and reports of data findings to clinician, provider, or RN.
Administers medications and injections, observing and documenting patient response and reporting change in the patient's condition.
Performs urine specimen collections, breathalyzer and other point of care specimen collection as ordered.
Labels and stores lab specimens appropriately.

Participates in nursing reports and other care team meetings to ensure continuity in Veterans care that is provided in the mental health setting.

Participates in patient/family teaching programs related to health promotion and reinforces instructions provided by the registered nurse and physician and documents in approved format.

Initiates therapeutic communications with Veterans and families utilizing formal and informal communication processes.
Initiates and evaluates Veterans participation in the mental health setting such as nursing led groups and community meetings.
Participates in unit committees as directed. Providing input and reporting outcomes to the Nurse Manager.
Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

Intermittent employment is defined as non-fulltime employment in which employees serve under an appointment without a regularly scheduled tour of duty.

A position with an intermittent work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance.

Pay:


An intermittent employee is paid overtime when work is performed in excess of 8 hours in a day, or in excess of 40 hours in a workweek.

The overtime rate is 1.5 multiplied by your regular hourly rate.

As an intermittent employee, you are also entitled to weekend premium at a rate of 25% your regular hourly rate for work between the hours of midnight Friday to Midnight the following Sunday.

Intermittent employees are not eligible for health benefits unless expected to work 130 hours per month or more for at least 90 days.
