Position Summary

The successful candidate will manage large electrical substations or energy storage projects in eastern Massachusetts through the planning, engineering, construction, and commissioning phases. You will monitor and coordinate the development of engineering documents; manage the procurement of specialty material and the development of outage plans; and participate in the construction bidding process. During construction, you will ensure that all aspects of the project are complete and documented in accordance with the design, company policies, and applicable regulations and laws. Other primary tasks include developing project budgets, coordinating necessary regulatory approvals and permits, maintaining accurate cost forecasts, providing progress reporting and presentation, executing the project plan, managing the project change control management process, coordinating the development of the project start-up, and commissioning plan.

You should be someone who can collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders and coordinate work accordingly to meet the quality, budget, and schedule constraints of complex projects while communicating with several levels of an organization. You will work closely with several internal groups and external consultants and have overall responsibility for most aspects of the project. This includes the coordination of permit approvals with regulators, local elected officials, and town department managers. You will be surrounded by other project management team members with direct experience available to you as you develop what we hope will be a long-term career with PMA Consultants.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred. A bachelor's degree in finance, business, or the equivalent degree will be considered. A master's degree is desirable.
  • 5+ years of project management of electrical substations or similar projects required. Experience with energy storage using battery arrays preferred. 5 years of project development for complex projects in the preconstruction phase will be considered.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices required. Experience working in a matrix organization is preferred.
  • Experience managing projects requiring public and regulatory approvals required.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution, substation, and/or transmission projects required.
  • Ability to run meetings, motivate others, and interact with strong listening, speaking, and writing skills required.
  • Exceptional ability to remain organized and manage multiple action items simultaneously required.
  • Capability to investigate and solve problems, analyze data, draft reports, and make presentations required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Primavera P6 or similar software preferred.

Client had difficulties in articulating exactly what was needed and ultimately passed on interviewing of candidates and the need was satisfied internally.

Additional Requirements

Physical: Standing or sitting for long periods; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times and spend extended hours in front of a computer screen.

Cognitive: Problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; computer and software skills; and ability to read and interpret text online or in printed form.
