Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Goal: To coordinate clinical learning laboratory experiences for all learners in collaboration with program faculty to ensure quality and continuity in the achievement of course student learning outcomes (CSLOs) for all programs.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Facilitates and oversees clinical lab services for all nursing programs and supports faculty instruction.
  2. Assists faculty and students with the use and operation of the lab.
  3. Assists with lab preparation based on course requirements for both the clinical learning labs.
  4. Assists with the maintenance of equipment and supplies necessary for effective use of all learning labs.
  5. Coordinates with faculty regarding the use of the clinical learning labs for all functions, including regular classes, special class sections, open lab, advanced clinical skills, and Competency Performance Examinations (CPEs).
  6. Assists with orientation and training for clinical learning lab faculty.
  7. May conduct performance appraisals or provide feedback of simulation and clinical learning laboratory faculty effectiveness in support of student learning and curriculum outcome requirements.
  8. Obtains and organizes equipment and supplies to be utilized in the clinical learning lab and CPEs.
  9. Performs walk-through evaluations on faculty teaching in clinical learning labs for all programs and reports findings with Program Directors and others as necessary.
  10. Makes recommendations for curriculum changes for all programs to the Director of Simulation or Program Directors based on research and needs identified when performing oversight in both the clinical learning labs and CPE administration.
  11. Reviews and analyzes quarterly student lab evaluations and makes recommendations for changes and/or identified problems noted.
  12. Maintains relationships with colleges and universities, professional organizations, hospitals, and other healthcare agencies.
  13. Attend course committee meetings as non-voting member as available.
  14. Identifies ways to increase use of simulation in the clinical learning lab.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to successfully perform the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Unencumbered Licensure: Applicable state as a Registered Nurse.

Education: Minimum of a Master of Science Degree with a major in nursing from an accredited institution required. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential preferred when eligible.

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of two (2) years teaching in the clinical lab setting.

Special Qualifications: Organizational and planning skills; knowledge of the function and operation of the various simulation models available in the clinical learning laboratory. Effective written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use personal computers, word processing, spreadsheet and/or database. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.

Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment: Position requires critical thinking, reading, planning, preparing, evaluating, and decision making. Physical demands in classroom and office are minimal and considered sedentary work with occasional lifting and/or carrying such articles as supplies, files, and books (25 pounds minimum). Operation of standard office equipment such as phone, computer, classroom projector, and printer/scanner, occurs on a frequent basis.

Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
