10-month clinical (non-tenure track) position in Exercise Physiology
The College of Education and Human Development is seeking candidates for a full-time term faculty position. This position will be at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor in the Exercise Phyisology Program in the Health and Sport Sciences Department. It is a non-tenure-track, 10-month renewable appointment. The start date for this position is August 1, 2024.
THE POSITION
The Department of Health and Sport Sciences (HSS), in collaboration with the University of Louisville Athletic Department and UofL Health, is seeking applications for a 10-month clinical faculty position. This non-tenure role entails a multifaceted responsibility, encompassing teaching and mentorship within the Exercise Physiology programs in HSS, while also assuming the pivotal role of Director of Biomechanics for both UofL Health and the University of Louisville Athletic Department.
Ideal candidates will possess an advanced doctoral degree in Biomechanics and/or Human Performance, coupled with a minimum of five years of demonstrable experience in collegiate or professional athletic environments. Of particular interest are candidates exhibiting a robust teaching background across various domains of human performance, such as strength and conditioning, sport science/sport analytics, environmental physiology, long-term athlete development, and biomechanical analysis of athlete/patient performance. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of this faculty position encompass teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in Biomechanics and/or Sport Performance Analytics, with an emphasis on integrating lectures and practical applications enriched by real-world experiences. Faculty members within the HSS Department are required to uphold a curriculum that complies with the standards set forth by the program's accrediting bodies, namely the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association's Education Recognition Program (ERP).
Furthermore, in the role of Director of Biomechanics for UofL Health, the appointed faculty member is tasked with spearheading the development and application of applied biomechanics to benefit UofL student-athletes and advance UofL Health's sports medicine initiatives within the local community. This role entails diverse responsibilities spanning healthcare, academia, and community sports partnerships. In the healthcare domain, the Director of Biomechanics will be responsible for developing processes and procedures for kinetic and kinematic evaluations, as well as supporting UofL Health's sports medicine initiatives within both physical therapy settings and among community sports partners. Within UofL Athletics, the Director of Biomechanics will take the lead on all aspects of biomechanics relevant to athlete assessment, rehabilitation, sports performance, coaches' education, and research. Finally, the chosen candidate is expected to facilitate scholarly research and funding opportunities through collaborative efforts involving healthcare, academia, athletics, and the community at large.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION (required)
PhD in Biomechanics, Human Performance or closely related field and at least five years of experience at the collegiate or professional level, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Successful teaching experience in at least one of the following content areas: biomechanical analysis of athlete/patient performance, strength & conditioning, sport science/sport analytics, environmental physiology, athlete development
Current Certifications: First Aid and CPR/AED, CSCS certification through the NSCA, and ISBS membership
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills as well as organizational and administrative skills
Demonstrates strength and/or the potential for excellence and leadership in scientific research and publishing
Demonstrates successful history of grant writing and grant-funded research and/or demonstrates a commitment to the development of a strong extramurally funded research program
Knowledge of NCAA and ACC rules and regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least eight years of experience at the collegiate or professional level
Experience with force platform and motion capture technology
Relevant human performance certifications including the CSCC, USAW Level 1, CPSS, FMS Level 1, etc.
Record of mentoring undergraduate or graduate students in career readiness, research, and internship
Evidence of knowledge or experience in incorporating technology in instructional practices
Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices
SALARY: Competitive, based upon qualifications and experience
APPOINTMENT: 10-month with the possibility of summer teaching
