Supports the Bioethics Services and initiatives at Nicklaus Children's Health System. Collaborates with key stakeholders across the health system, provides consultations, and supports the policy development and review process, implementation, and education on ethical questions. Provides guidance and support for ethics inquiries.

Job Specific Duties

  • Provides ethics consultations and field ethics inquiries. Is knowledgeable of when an ethics inquiry may be handled via phone or one-on-one discussion, and when the ethics inquiry must be escalated to an official ethics consultation and sent to the bioethics committee.
  • Promotes the bioethics program as an NCHS resource for all clinical staff, building and maintaining relationships and promoting ethics.
  • Conducts literature reviews and research for ethics cases, providing articles and resources to support the ethics service and its cases.
  • Conducts family interviews for ethics consultations as well as communicates with all key-stakeholders involved with the ethics consultation request.
  • Conducts projects that support, evaluate, expand, and/or promote the bioethics program at NCHS.
  • Maintains and completes appropriate study documents according to the study protocol, institutional policies, and government regulations, if applicable.
  • Conducts ethics research and adds to the scientific literature.
  • Build relationships with other bioethicists and individuals that work in the medical ethics field. These relationships can be used as resources for difficult cases and to help navigate bioethics policy development and education.
  • Remains up-to-date with leading bioethics theories and literature, ensuring the NCHS bioethics program performs at a national standard and is aligned with current national bioethics policies and theories.
