The Senior Construction Administration Lead is responsible for maintaining visibility over the full construction loan portfolio and advising commercial lending sales and credit leadership on Construction risk management practices. As a leader within the Credit Administration organization, the Senior Construction Administration Lead oversees the team responsible for monitoring and servicing construction loans through project completion. The Senior Construction Administration Lead handles escalations and provides support for all Construction Loan Administration team members including construction loan document negotiation, draw reviews, loan processing, and meeting with the Coverage Team and Clients as needed.

The Senior Construction Administration Lead is expected to have advanced expertise in construction loan document negotiation, portfolio management, loan administration and the regulatory environment within the construction loan industry. Additionally, the Senior Construction Administration Lead should demonstrate leadership capabilities, with the ability to effectively manage teams and their associated workflow. An advanced understanding of customer needs with the ability to work with internal partners to drive customer loyalty and expand the use of Fifth Third Bank's products and services is also expected.

The role is responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with the Head of Commercial Real Estate, Commercial Real Estate Group Heads and Senior Credit Solutions Director to understand the business strategy and pipeline for the industry.
  • Work with Real Estate Credit Risk Executives and Associate General Legal Counsel to appropriately manage construction lending policy within the Bank's risk appetite.
  • Maintain a view of the full construction industry portfolio.
  • Define the Coverage Team by identifying the appropriate credit partner.
  • Meet with prospective clients as needed.
  • Assess viability of the client and/or transaction prior to term sheet.
  • Review deal structures and approve term sheets.
  • Facilitate discussions with Credit Officers and support Portfolio Managers/Underwriters in discussions with RMs as needed.
  • Handle escalations and provide support for all Portfolio Manager/Underwriter and Portfolio Manager/Underwriter Team Lead responsibilities.
  • Advise credit team of Fifth Third Bank's overall lending policy.
  • Establish workflow priorities within the industry portfolio.
  • Provide ongoing management, coaching, training, and education for assigned staff of Credit professionals, to include Portfolio Managers, Underwriters, Team Leads and Credit Analysts.
  • Provide performance reviews for Portfolio Managers and Portfolio Manager Team Leads as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Construction Administration Lead supervises Construction Loan Portfolio Managers and Portfolio Manager Team Leads (as needed) within the Construction Loan Administration team.

Responsible for providing employees timely, candid and constructive performance feedback; developing employees to their fullest potential and provide challenging opportunities that enhance employee career growth; developing the appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength and succession planning; recognizing and rewarding employees for accomplishments.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business required, Advanced degree preferred (eg Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in commercial construction lending that includes leadership experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction lending credit policies and guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of banking products and services.
  • Expertise in financial and risk analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of corporate business structure and legal documents.
  • General knowledge of U.S. government and regulation.
  • Knowledge of the requisite industry preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in internal banking applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office software.
