Job Description

The Machine Design Engineer will be a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Team focused on developing the next generation high volume manufacturing processes that will connect 24M's revolutionary product to the high growth energy storage market. The team member will be responsible for assisting executing the complete designs of high-volume manufacturing equipment. This will include Kinematic and Dynamic analysis of machinery, Finite Element Analysis and Design for manufacturability. The successful candidate will bring a foundational understanding of machine element theory. A proven track record of successful implementation of the fundamentals of machine design practices and an understanding of synchronous machine design and continuous motion machinery design. Strong interpersonal skills are required, as are a strong work ethic and an ability to flourish in a dynamic startup environment. The Machine Design Engineer reports to the Principal Process Engineer.

Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating machine and equipment designs.
  • Detail component and assembly drawings.
  • Work closely with equipment vendor design engineers and outside partners to successfully complete proof of concepts or engineering analysis as needed.
  • Work with technicians to answer questions related to equipment designs and implementation. Support installation of equipment on Pilot line equipment.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5-10 years' experience in automated machinery design
  • Good knowledge of strength of materials, Statics, Heat Transfer and Dynamics.
  • Web converting machinery design (areas that use this technology are battery, diapers, film, paper manufacturing etc.)
  • Continuous motion machinery experience (such as bottling machinery, razor blade assembly, or batteries)

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Solid Works FEA

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
