The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for general ledger functions and adhering to required statutory procedures following US GAAP accounting, assuring compliance with all reporting and internal control requirements, and adequately protecting the assets of APCO. The Staff Accountant reports to the Financial Controller – North America.

This position may sit in APCO's Washington, D.C. or Chicago office

Primary Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly general ledger account analysis of balance sheet accounts including bank reconciliations for our North America office.
  • Perform weekly offsets and regularized clearing of AR, maintaining accurate aging
  • Record Intercompany payments and invoices.
  • Cash application of accounts receivable
  • Manage assigned accounts payable functions including recording wire vendor payments.
  • Record expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation and make adjusting/reclassification journal entries as needed
  • Support the month end close by preparing ongoing journal entries and accruals
  • Provide ad hoc analysis and support

Qualifications & Standards:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration with a focus in accounting
  • 2-4 years of related work experience
  • CPA candidate highly desirable
  • Strong computer skills: proficient Excel skills, Deltek Maconomy ERP system, and other Microsoft Office products
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Compensation Range:

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 per year. While we provide competitive compensation, it's important to note that for new hires, salaries typically align with the lower end of the range, taking into account factors such as experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
