Under supervision, drafts various documents, including correspondence, memos, promotional materials, announcements, presentations, informational materials, forms, brochures, flyers, press releases and social media content.

Prepares these materials for both print and electronic distribution where applicable. Regularly reviews and updates marketing materials and researches and makes routine corrections.


Assists in the development of marketing, publicity, and promotional materials, outreach activities and campaigns to ensure effective communications of National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disable (NLS) programs and services.

Markets NLS programs and services using appropriate print and electronic resources. Assists in developing, coordinating, and conducting outreach programs including orientations, tours, and presentations about NLS. Works on various components of outreach campaigns including messaging, collateral development and analytics.

Resolves routine issues and works to resolve problems when outreach goals are not met.

Works to develop and maintain personal contacts, as directed by the Head of Communications and Outreach (COS), with stakeholder groups to provide information about NLS, its mission and services, and promote the use of NLS services.


Assists in the development and implementation of plans designed to enhance the relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, to increase understanding of NLS services, and to increase effectiveness in communicating program goals priorities and areas of concern.

The incumbent adheres to agency policy and regulations when disseminating information. However, they can independently exercise appropriate judgement when specific guidelines are not applicable.


Researches, prepares, gathers, organizes, or distributes written and electronic materials and data to various internal and external stakeholders to help ensure that program objectives and communications are accomplished.

Arranges for and organizes clerical staff assistance or obtains services, supplies, or information from other NLS offices.


Provides detailed logistical support for programs and outreach campaigns including, but not limited to preparing collateral materials for outreach events, developing lists of contacts for outreach, coordinating clerical staff assistance, staffing education and outreach events, entering data and assisting with the purchase of related materials.

Performs logistical planning activities for a wide range of programs and events for both internal and external stakeholders. Assists in identifying necessary logistical requirements and makes assigned logistical arrangements. Assist in scheduling and coordinating meeting places, room set up, assembly of equipment, and other tasks as necessary.

Assists in developing program checklist to ensure all requirements are met. Develops schedules and agendas for various events and meetings. Assists in identifying and implementing new technologies, including web based tools, to support NLS programs and outreach. Provides feedback in setting program support deadlines and ensures that they are met. Plans and conducts pre-and post-event meetings.

Compiles, maintains, and analyzes basic program statistics. Assists in the development of various NLS programs, outreach campaigns and activities. Based on evaluations, makes appropriate recommendations to the Head of COS for potential changes in programming and outreach.

Under the supervision of the Head of COS, informs others within NLS about trending topics, issues, and opportunities for additional outreach.
