General Summary of Position
Responsible for the supervision, training, and management of the food service overnight operation. Ensure that appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served. Duties also include overseeing and assisting staff to ensure food is being prepared and served to patients in accordance with diets established by the dietitians and with the proper food consistency. This individual will provide the general responsibilities of the position including those listed below, but other responsibilities may be identified for the position. These functions are performed in accordance of all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for increased service or productivity.Maintains food production that ensures the safety and quality of food according to policies, procedures, and department requirements.Maintains communication with staff (including e-mail correspondence, phone calls, and nursing unit visits).Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.Ensures that food items, utensils, and decorative items placed on the table meet the standards for temperature and appearance according to established protocols.Ensures timely delivery of meals, snacks and late trays to patients and customers.Ensures food items are stored in a safe, organized, and hazard-free environment.Works with Nursing Staff, and customers to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, service and problem resolution.Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and is not to be considered as all-inclusive.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required or

Experience

  • 1-2 years 2 years of food preparation experience. required and
  • Large-scale food preparation and/or hospital dietary experience preferred and
  • Previous catering experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • ServSafe Food Handler - SSFH ServSafe, Completion of Sanitation and Food Handlers course preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of a variety of foods, their preparation and serving etiquette.
  • Ability to handle heavy workload.
  • Basic knowledge of sanitary methods used in food preparation, knowledge of safety precautions and HACCP procedures in cooking food preferred.
  • Must be able to follow directions, understand written and oral instructions and have basic mathematical skills.
  • Able to interact with all levels of staff.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Must be courteous and tactful in dealing with customers.
  • Must be able to exercise good judgement and initiative in satisfying customer requests.
  • Must meet competency requirements for patient dietary needs


This position has a hiring range of $ $33.21
