The Associate will engage in various activities including advocacy, research, outreach to clients, coalition-building, technical support, public education, and program evaluation. A key focus will be on addressing nutritional challenges faced by diverse populations, particularly older adults, veterans, college students, returning citizens, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and immigrant communities.

As a member of the FRAC team, the Associate will contribute to the overarching mission of FRAC, support partner coalitions, and tackle broader food security challenges in the region. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to combating hunger and poverty. This is a full-time position that requires residency in the metropolitan area, as in-person meetings and engagements will be necessary.

Organizational Overview

FRAC is dedicated to enhancing the nutrition, health, and well-being of individuals facing hunger due to poverty in the United States. Through advocacy, partnerships, and the promotion of equitable policy solutions, FRAC works to address hunger and food insecurity, recognizing poverty as the root cause.

Established in 2002, D.C. Hunger Solutions operates as a distinct initiative of FRAC, aiming to eradicate hunger in the nation's capital. By leveraging federal resources and improving local nutrition program operations, D.C. Hunger Solutions has significantly increased access to nutritious food for thousands of residents.

  • Enhance participation in and improvements to the SNAP Program as a critical strategy against hunger and a vital support for nutrition and income.
  • Design and execute outreach strategies to boost SNAP participation, including site visits, presentations, training, research, public education, and policy advocacy.
  • Collaborate with the D.C. EITC Campaign during tax season to coordinate SNAP outreach efforts, including volunteer training and application assistance.
  • Evaluate policies and practices that impact SNAP participation.
  • Oversee data collection and reporting related to SNAP outreach efforts and participation rates.
  • Support initiatives aimed at addressing hunger among vulnerable populations, increasing access to federal nutrition programs.
  • Manage the SNAP outreach hotline, providing direct assistance to clients.
  • Foster partnerships with government agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders to promote food security.
  • Engage with the public and policymakers to raise awareness about hunger issues and advocate for solutions.

Qualifications

  • Experience in hunger and anti-poverty initiatives is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to social justice and equity.
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with SNAP and other federal nutrition assistance programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in policy advocacy and collaboration with government entities.
  • Empathetic communication skills, particularly with low-income families.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with effective project management skills.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours as needed.
  • Proficient in producing clear reports and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork capabilities.
  • Conversational Spanish is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel for local meetings and outreach events.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $57,000 - $64,400, accompanied by excellent health, dental, vision, retirement benefits, generous leave, and a supportive work environment.

Application Process

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a resume, a brief writing sample, and a cover letter outlining their qualifications and experiences.
