Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 2 to serve in the Foundation's finance department, a unit of University Advancement.** This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.** This position requires basic accounting concepts used in business relating to revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities and the candidate must be able to review and analyze basic financial statements.

The individual in this role is responsible for a range of accounting functions to include, but are not limited to: performing general ledger reconciliations and bank reconciliations; processing vendor payments; compliance; internal controls; data compilation, data analysis, preparing audit workpapers; preparing journal entries; preparing, analyzing and interpreting written data and financial reports; applying accounting principles and government accounting standards when preparing financial information; reviewing contracts, vouchers and other documents; responding to data and/or information requests from campus staff, faculty, donors, volunteers and others; and for special projects assigned by the Foundation Controller. The Accounting Technician 2 may also be required to provide guidance and training to other departmental personnel and students as it relates to Workday transactions and the processing of vendor payments.

Required Qualifications
  • This position requires graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting. Additionally required is three (3) years of progressively responsible financial records maintenance experience which includes duties such as designing, implementing and interpreting narrative and data reports; applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information; preparing entries to accounts; analyzing assets and liabilities and preparing balance sheets; auditing contracts, vouchers and other documents and preparing summary transaction reports; implementing accounting control procedures; and overseeing the work of accounting clerical staff; OR
  • One (1) year of experience as an Accountant Technician I in Nevada State service; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicants with Workday, Razor's Edge or Financial Edge experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Associate degree in accounting or higher preferred.
Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 32 (Entry: Step 01 $27.15/hr. - Step 05 $32.23/hr.)

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
