The Office of Councilwoman Ann O’Brien is seeking a full-time Communications Specialist to focus on brand management and media/community partnership building. Primary responsibilities include assisting with all aspects of strategic communications including press, social media, and mass communications, as well as organizing community events and strategic partnerships.


We are looking for a self-starter who is highly motivated, detail-oriented, creative, and enthusiastic, with experience in print and digital media strategy, graphic design, and video and photo editing.


Our ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and writing skills for varying audience types, will freely provide ideas and opinions, and will be able to effectively speak in the Councilwoman’s cadence and voice.


This position reports directly to the Chief of Staff and serves at the pleasure of the Councilwoman. The position requires weekend work and unpredictable hours.


RESPONSIBILITES:

• Managing the Member’s social media platforms and website

• Planning and organizing district-based press conferences and community events

• Speech writing with the goal of incorporating intent and voice of Member

• Drafting statements, releases, op-eds, and social media content

• Photographing and video-recording the Member at various official events

• Additional tasks as required by Chief of Staff or the Councilwoman


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent writing skills with strong editing, proofreading and organizational skills

• Active follower of the news cycle and basic understanding of how traditional media and social media intersect

• Creativity with strong proficiency in crafting digital content

• Detail-oriented self-starter and team player able to handle multiple tasks at once in a fast-paced environment.

• Flexibility and availability to work long hours and when necessary, weekends


COMPENSATION:

Salary is negotiable based on qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, paid vacation and holidays, as well as retirement and pension plan options.
