Job Description

The Head of Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting operations for both the U.S. and Canadian branches of the company. This role ensures that financial reporting aligns with GAAP/IFRS standards and that all financial functions are operating effectively and efficiently.

Direct Reports:

  • Finance & Accounting team for the North America region

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Systems & Reporting:

  • Design and maintain accounting systems that produce timely and accurate financial data for internal and external use.
  • Oversee the preparation of regular financial reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP/IFRS standards.

Financial Operations:

  • Manage processes related to payments, cash flow, purchasing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Monitor the day-to-day financial and accounting operations within the organization.

Insurance & Compliance:

  • Manage insurance policies and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure the finance department complies with all government requirements.

Vendor & Credit Management:

  • Communicate with creditors and vendors regarding payment schedules, outstanding credits, and other finance-related matters.
  • Oversee invoicing processes and monitor overdue trade receivables.
  • Track all payments and expenditures, including payroll, purchase orders, invoices, and statements.

Tax & Audit:

  • Manage tax planning throughout the fiscal year and file annual corporate tax returns.
  • Prepare documentation for year-end audits as required.

Strategic Financial Planning:

  • Advise management on short- and long-term financial goals and policies.
  • Provide financial analysis with a focus on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Participate in policy development as a member of the Leadership team.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead the finance department, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff performance, and making personnel recommendations.
  • Assign work, evaluate performance, and provide guidance on procedural and technical issues.
  • Monitor work outcomes and provide performance metrics to management.

Additional Duties:

  • Manage permissions for banking accounts, including signatory permissions for the U.S. and Canada.
  • Administer software related to insurance, 401k, and AMEX accounts.
  • Access IT systems necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Criteria for Success:

  • Adherence to corporate standards and guidelines.
  • Continuous improvement of financial processes.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 10%

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (required); Master's Degree (preferred)
  • Experience: 7+ years in finance/accounting; 5+ years in leadership roles
  • Sector Experience: Experience in the renewable energy sector (preferred)
