Austin, United States Texas Association of Health Plans Full time

The Texas Association of Health Plans (TAHP) is the statewide trade association representing commercial and Medicaid health plans operating in Texas.

Administrative and Commincations Associate

Description: TAHP is seeking a highly organized and proactive Administrative and Communications Associate to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting the TAHP Staff and the overall mission of TAHP by assisting with day-to-day office operations, event coordination, and advocacy efforts. The ideal candidate is a dynamic self-starter with excellent communication skills and passion for improving health care accessibility in Texas.

Advocacy Support

  • Generate and monitor content and ideas for TAHP social media platforms
  • Watch and write meeting recaps for legislative and agency hearings
  • Collaborate with the policy team in writing and distributing blog posts and advocacy updates. Assist with marketing one-pagers, legislative guides, and other briefing materials by producing both web and print design elements.
  • Assist in proofreading and editing written content from TAHP
  • Track and monitor bills during legislative sessions; assist with google drive organization
  • Assist TAHP staff schedule meetings and format slide deck presentations for TAHP meetings
  • Experience with graphic design software is a major plus (such as Canva, Adobe InDesign, etc.)

Event Planning and Coordination

  • Assist with the promotion, planning, coordination, and execution of all TAHP events, including the annual Texas Covered Conference, capitol luncheons (Food for Thoughts), networking events, medical director forums, and webinars
  • Assisting with event design, presentation slide design
  • Assist with logistical details of events, including invitations, registration, audio and visual equipment, catering orders, etc

Administrative and Membership Support

  • Assemble daily news clips, the week-in-review newsletter, and various other updates
  • Manage TAHP distribution lists (Google Groups, Airtable)
  • Spearhead and maintain TAHP website updates (WordPress)
  • Manage and oversee our systems for external communications (Axios HQ, Meltwater, etc.)
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas and directions for marketing and communications
  • Build relationships with and work directly with TAHP members; assist in promoting the good work of organizations and their services

OCCASIONAL TRAVEL IS REQUIRED.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK. This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., however may require longer hours and weekends during the legislative session and TAHP events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT. This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely interacts with association members, and guests. At TAHP, we trust you to get your job done from anywhere, so we do not have a requirement to be in the office every day. We only ask that you are available by Slack, Zoom, email, and phone during typical working hours Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm. This is when most meetings will occur and when employees are generally expected to be available.

An exception to this policy is that we do expect employees to be readily available to attend in-person meetings and events. If your job includes events, networking, advocacy, and in-person meetings, you are expected to be proactive about being available in-person regardless of location. This sometimes includes travel.

Additionally, because of the nature of our legislative work, employees will often have irregular workdays and flexible schedules — sending emails on weekends or evenings and having to work long days and weekends during Legislative Sessions, Legislative hearings, agency meetings, and TAHP events. During these busier times, employees are often expected to be available in the evenings or on weekends.

For employees that prefer to work in an office, that option is also always available along with a paid parking place.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH.

  • Tracking and analyzing health insurance legislation and regulations
  • Policy research
  • Creating fact sheets, issue briefs, talking points
  • Creating newsletters, reports, and other member communications
  • Assist with social media campaigns and strategies

How to apply. Please email (subject line: TAHP Operations and Policy Advocacy Associate) resume, and 3 references by close of business on August 9, 2024, to pdoner@tahp.org.
