About the role

We are seeking a talented and driven Scientist or Senior Scientist to join our dynamic and fast-paced start-up. The successful candidate will join our innovative R&D team and will have the opportunity to work on developing technologies that will improve the lives of cancer patients. They will work with a multidisciplinary team that includes data scientists, molecular biologists, clinical laboratory scientists, and physicians to support key company objectives that include automation and process optimization of the UroAmp assay pipeline, expansion of UroAmp-supported drug trials, and development of novel NGS assays and applications.


Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative assays and methodologies for next-generation sequencing applications and clinical sample preparations
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze results, and report conclusions
  • Optimize assays and laboratory processes for stability, robustness, and performance
  • Collaborate with automation engineers to transition manual workflows to automated liquid handlers
  • Assume ownership of key projects and perform prerequisite tasks independently
  • Conduct clear and concise communication with colleagues, collaborators, and supervisors through oral updates, written reports, technical meetings, and peer-reviewed scientific papers
  • Maintain a detailed record of all research activities
  • Be both a strong individual contributor as well as a collaborative team member.
  • Demonstrate flexibility without compromising productivity
  • Mentor junior scientists

 

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, biochemistry or related fields
  • M.S. in relevant life science discipline and experience in the liquid biopsy/NGS industry
  • Deep technical understanding of molecular biology techniques and next-generation sequencing (NGS) applications
  • Strong background in genetics, genomics, and/or cancer biology
  • Familiarity and adequate skills in bioinformatics and data analysis tools
  • Ability to meticulously execute complex experimental designs, analyze large data sets, and interpret results
  • Experience in liquid biopsy and/or oncology a plus
  • Adept at troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, organized individual with a strong desire to innovate/develop new products. Desire to be part of a fast-paced dynamic research and development environment
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills

 

Work Environment

  • Hours and days may vary depending on operational needs
  • Standing or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, blood specimens, and instruments with moving parts, heating or freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation
  • Repetitive manual pipetting may be necessary
  • Some lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be necessary

Compensation and Benefits at Convergent Genomics

The base salary range for this position is $106,800 to $161,000 and will be determined by the candidate's skill level, qualifications, and experience.
