Position Summary

The Senior Engineer/Manager - Incentive and Innovation will report to the VP of Innovation and play a critical role in identifying innovative utility incentives and grants to enhance the ROI of energy service projects. These projects span areas such as Energy Efficiency, Water Efficiency, and Waste/Carbon Management. The role involves expertise in locating utility, state, federal, and other incentive programs, including rebates, tax deductions, and custom performance-based measures. The Senior Engineer/Manager will also develop measurement and verification (M&V) protocols to assess savings, support regional energy engineering teams, and contribute to proposals for utility grants and large incentive RFPs. Additionally, they will conduct pre- and post-performance incentive analyses, optimize available incentives, and integrate innovative technologies and products to deliver value for customers and enhance proposals.

Key Responsibilities

Utility Incentives and Grant Management (40%)

  • Manage engagement with utility and state agency incentive/grant programs.
  • Establish approved trade ally and preferred contractor relationships for Ecosave.
  • Identify new revenue opportunities, including grants, RFPs, and incentives, to improve project economics.
  • Oversee the pipeline of incentive applications to secure grants and funding.
  • Develop M&V strategies to maximize incentives.

Energy Performance Engineering (45%)

  • Advise the engineering team on incentive strategies and assist in estimating potential incentives.
  • Create detailed spreadsheet calculations and energy models for incentive program submissions.
  • Submit applications for incentives and grants, supported by energy savings analyses.
  • Install and manage data loggers to measure pre-baseline and post-implementation data as required for program compliance.
  • Conduct pre- and post-performance measurements for ECMs (Energy Conservation Measures) to meet program criteria.
  • Deliver detailed energy savings analyses and performance measurement calculations for program submissions.

Innovation and Energy Assessments (15%)

  • Introduce and evaluate innovative products and processes for Energy Efficiency, Demand Management, Energy Transition, and Decarbonization.
  • Streamline the energy assessment process by developing tools and procedures to improve productivity.
  • Assess and integrate new products to enhance energy efficiency outcomes.
  • Support the engineering team by identifying incentives that can drive project success.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, industrial, or energy systems engineering (or related field).
  • Certifications such as PE, CEM, CEA, or CMVP are preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards for energy audits (Levels 1, 2, 3, and Investment Grade Audits).

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Senior Energy Efficiency/Performance Engineer managing energy, water efficiency, or renewable energy projects.
  • Proficient in energy modeling software (e.g., Trane TRACE 3D, IES VE) and advanced Excel tools for custom incentive calculations.
  • Experience in preparing technical proposals for grants, tax credits, and incentives across utility, state, and federal programs.
  • Familiarity with IPMVP protocols for project performance management.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with utility program managers and consultants.
  • In-depth knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, lighting, and Building Automation Systems, as well as industrial systems like air compressors, steam systems, and heat exchangers.
  • Passion for energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainability.
  • Willingness to travel overnight as needed.
