Fareva is currently seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to join their team in Richmond, VA. We are a three shift operation – this is for a 2nd and 3rd shift position.

Who we are: Fareva is a leading contract manufacturer of pharmaceutical and personal care products. Located at intersection of Darbytown Road and Laburnum Avenue in Eastern Henrico County. Employs 600 full time employees. Comfortable climate controlled facility covering over 745,000 square feet.

Job summary: Individual will maintain steady and compliant operation of high-tech automated equipment and drive continual improvement through electrical/PLC technology.Work will include electronics, electrical control systems, server and process control, hydraulics/pneumatics, basic mechanical skills, and computer literacy. This position may be integrated with the line team as directed.When integrated, performs all required packaging functions within the assigned area including operation, quality checks and cleaning. Weekly work is driven from the generation of a production schedule that meets demands projected by a sales forecast and existing inventory days for finished goods. This proposed schedule is reviewed for the availability of bulk product from external suppliers, equipment capacity, and labor hours required. If acceptable the schedule is formalized and department activity begins. This coordination and prioritization is a key to getting the SKU into a form suitable for distribution and sale. In conjunction, the necessary batch records, packaging records, etc. are being compiled, completed, and reviewed in order to ensure compliance with all requirements both company and governmental. At the same time projects to support new business, improve equipment, labor efficiencies, material flow, and documentation are being conducted. The above activity is orchestrated in an environment of teamwork utilizing FAREVA’s values.

Summary of Essential job functions: With the direction of the Area Manager, manages all activities associated with current and new business, production of products.Ensures the timely completion of projects, production schedule in order to maintain necessary days of supply of finished goods to meet customer demand.

Maintains and troubleshoots various types of filling and packaging equipment within the PPUs. Work includes the electromechanical aspects of the equipment operation


Maintains and troubleshoots programmable logic controllers (PLC), operator interfaces, variable frequency drives, servomotors, encoders


Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repair such as starters, fuses, relays, wire blocks, wiring, breakers, etc.


Performs preventative maintenance on electrical and safety systems


Diagnoses electrical based discrepancies on equipment with or without the use of blueprints. Provides written methods of operation and control of electronic systems


Communicate problems and solutions in appropriate manner, and takes direction from multiple sources


Analyzes and interprets downtime and OEE data.Use this data to design and implement improvements


Maintains productive working relationships as part of a production team


Able to discern complex electrical drawings and correlate to actual equipment/circuit layout. Able to inspect electrical control systems to trace circuitry or pinpoint potential problem areas


Responsible for maintaining validated state of equipment, which directly impacts product quality


Order correct repair parts for machines


Work with maintenance personnel in troubleshooting effort


Adheres strictly to all cGMP’s, PPG’s, regulatory and safety standards and procedures to ensure the quality and integrity of products and safety of employees


Keeps working area in a clean and orderly condition according to PPG’s and 5S principles


Ensures that all machine guards, interlocks and other safety devices are properly installed and maintained in good working order.Follows established lockout procedures when working on equipment


Must be familiar with LOTO procedure and be able to identify situational hazards


Manage the Preventative Maintenance System in SAP


Drives and supports the implementation of process improvements for both equipment and human resources needed to maintain quality in a competitive cost structure for products produced.

  • Ensures compliance in a manufacturing/packaging environment with Corporate (SCI, cGMP's) guidelines, State, and Federal Requirements (FDA, OSHA, EPA) for product quality and safety.
  • Interfaces on a daily basis with support departments including quality assurance (product, materials, and documentation), human resources, materials management, technical services, engineering (site and divisional), training, as well as site
  • management in the areas of production and safety.
  • Responsible for ensuring that equipment, employees, and means of production for manufacturing and packaging are in place and performing according to defined standards.
  • With support of department manager, develops appropriate analyses of facilities, equipment, and staff to quantify capacities, constraints, and department capabilities.
  • Key contributor in the development of factory direction, goals, operating and capital budget,
  • labor planning, and financial accountability.
  • Supports and represents Production Manager for signatory and presence during absences, delegated assignments, and scheduling conflicts.
  • Manage direct labor variance and material usage variance to a favorable average each month
  • Participating in interviewing and identifying new talent for the maintenance department – mechanics and electricians.Administering STM testing on potential mechanical applicants.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA in Science, Engineering, Business or related field.
  • Must have a background in both Electrical and Mechanical trades
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a production/manufacturing environment AND/OR a minimum of 3 to 5 years in direct supervision/management role. Candidate should possess education and/or background to support a strong focus on project implementation, improvement of process/equipment and operational effectiveness.
  • Journeyman’s card or electrical certification

Extensive experience in managing a large hourly and exempt workforce is required. It is essential the incumbent possess a strong floor presence. Background should be in the Consumer Goods, Cosmetic or Pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· A high degree of leadership skills including superior human relations skills: i.e. negotiation, coaching, teamwork, and communication both verbal and written.

· Incumbent should be an effective communicator both up and down the organizational chain.

· A high degree of technical expertise in dealing with high speed diverse mixing and packaging equipment is required.

· Must be results oriented and familiar with lean manufacturing techniques, including product costing.

· Familiarity with manufacturing in an FDA or ISO controlled environment is a must.
